This morning was the Provo 10 miler. It started up the South Fork of Provo Canyon. I have never done this actual race before but it was about the same route as the Provo 1/2 so it was all familiar. My babysitter was supposed to be at my house at 5:40 but by 5:50 she wasn't here yet so after a few phone calls and me driving up to her house, I found her (phew!!). I met up with Heidi C, Heidi W, her sister Emily, Emily's husband Richard and JaNae to drive over. It was a fun morning with them and I enjoyed the ride over and the preparation time we had together. We got on the bus and up we went arriving on top at 7:00am. The race wasn't supposed to start until 8:00 but they started it just a bit early. I ran with JaNae and Heidi until the first water stop at mile 3 but then lost them. I got my drink and started running for a few steps assuming they were right behind me but when I turned around to check, they were no where to be seen. I sat and looked and looked but could never find them so I had no idea what to do. I kind of hung back for a bit waiting to see if they would come through the crowd but they never did so I just took off and kept running. It was the perfect weather for running this morning. The canyon is absolutely beautiful because of all of the rain we have been having. I loved it!! I had to take it a bit easier today because my back is still giving me fits but I was using today's race as a cage on my recovery and all in all, I felt good about it. A big thanks to Dr. Cook (my chiropractor) who made the recovery thus far possible. He is awesome! I was able to push a few miles here and there and ended feeling tired which tells me that I probably pushed it about as much as I should have today given all of the circumstances (low miles over the past 2 weeks and a back injury). The ending was fun and I ended up seeing all sorts of familiar faces which was fun. Good morning run. I am ready to start my marathon training. Let the good times begin!
