The Annual Speedy Spaniard!!! Oh, I am not sure if it's funner to run this race due to tradition or just to see all of the familiar faces when running (more at the start line).  Either way, I have grown to love this race.  It is getting a lot bigger however, Almost 650 runners this year.  I first ran this race back in 2000 when I was just 9 weeks pregnant with my first son and there were only 150 runners.  When I crossed the finish line (back in 2000) it was over 90 degrees and NOT PLEASANT! That was the first time I thought I may officially die due to running :).  From that time on, I had no desire to run it (or come to think of it to run in general).  However then I ran again in 2003 (had a baby June 2004 so no running that year) and then have ran it every year since 2005, Yes, I like it!!! It is a fun one.  My goal was to beat last years time which was around 1:49 I think.  I went out a little fast and I feel I paid for that later.  I had a hard time staying motivated at the end. I was alone pretty much the entire time until my knight in shining armor, AKA, Kelli Stephenson, came to rescue me at mile 5.  She had to talk me through the last mile and we finished together, THANKS KELLI! I am not sure what is getting my energy down lately but whatever it is, I need to figure it out (Maybe it has a little to do with my sugar intake, I have to ease up :)). All in all I was happy with my result and was happy that I got to see familiar faces and meet some fellow bloggers face to face for the first time.  A big shout out to Linds, Lily and Merri. It was so nice to meet you all.  ROCK ON FIESTA DAYS!!!

Wow! Look at you speedy! Nice job. We need to do another run soon!

Kellie, you are a super strong runner! I got to watch you the entire time and I kept thinking, "Man, she is fast and does not even look tired!" THANK YOU for stopping for water so i could FINALLY catch up to you. I was having a hard time getting to the finish, so having you by my side telling me which way to turn and how close the end was saved me from quitting!

You have some beautiful areas to run by your house. I am jealous of the terrain for sure, although I kept hoping to see a DOWNHILL somewhere on the course!!!!

Hope you had a fun PARTY day at the parade. And I hope Tyler has recovered from me almost killing him via a big white suburban that came from nowhere!

Kellie,

AWESOME race! Sounds like a great homegrown race that has become very popular. I'll have to put that on my calendar next year. Thanks for sharing your running experiences thru having babies and all. We were thinking about you two running your 10K. It's pretty cool that you , Kelli and Teena all run about the same time. LOVE IT!!! CONGRATS on a PR from Spectrum which I think it's a faster course than Spaniards. GREAT JOB!!!

Kellie,

You are so stinkin' amazing!!!!! :) :) :)

And yes, Smooth, the Kelli(e)s and I ran roughly the exact same time ... BUT their course was MUCH harder than mine!!

Btw ... what time did the race start??? Maybe we were running in unison ... one in spirit!! Our started at 6:00 a.m.

Congrats on an incredible race!! I went out too fast as well and crashed and burned the last mile!!! Oh well ... better than not giving it everything you've got!!

Lots of Love!

Way to go. You need to slow up a little though so I don't feel so bad about my past Speedy Spaniard times. jk
