So, I ran the 5 mile Dam to Dam race today~! However, I am not referencing it as a "Race" because technically, it wasn't...............for "me" anyway, hint hint!:) Tyler had planned to run the 10 miler as his last qualifying race for the Runner's Series so we decided to come down and make a weekend out of it as our "Pre-Baby" getaway!!! However, our house was being rented and the Holiday weekend posed some major problems finding a hotel so we ended up staying in Spring Dale (right at the mouth of Zion National Park). Oh my goodness, it is SO BEAUTIFUL out there!! It was SO SO FUN to getaway with Tyler and have some alone time! I really enjoy hanging with my hubby! So, we got down last Friday night and woke up to some serious rain (as forecasted) for the race, Yuck! We drove out to Sand Hollow Res to more rain, yuck! Sat and waiting for over an hour for the "shuttles"(aka volunteer drivers) to take us to the start line of the 5 miler when they came across the speaker and told us that they had re-routed the race to a 2.5 mile out and back instead......nice! So a few minutes before 10:00, we lined up and got ready to run. This way both the 10 mile and 5 mile races started and ended at the same place. I got going, running across, feeling pretty good, looked down at my watch and.........REALLY!??? I run THAT SLOW NOW??? It is a bit discouraging, but I do feel grateful to be able to run still so I tried not to let it get to me! The rain picked up a bit and after only .5 miles, my right leg was totally dead which kind of stunk, but........oh well, keep going. I planned to run to the half way point and then walk for a bit but was feeling "pretty good" so I decided to keep running. Toward the end (about the last mile) I felt like I was running so fast and really kicking some major butt so I.......................looked down at my watch again and.......REALLY!?!? I am still running that slow, ha ha!! Needless to say, I crossed the finish line at 48:53 (watch time) putting me at a 9:40 pace. Kind of sad but happy to have ran the whole time and so glad that I will have a little baby girl in a few weeks to show for it!! I have actually been thinking about my running since I have been pregnant and this little girl has already been through a lot with me! I feel grateful to have run this long into my pregnancy and grateful for the experiences I have had. I found out I was preggers last July and ran the Hobble creek Half in August, Salt Lake Half in September, SG Marathon in October, Snow Canyon 5k in November, Painters 5k in January, and now the Dam to Dam 5 miler in February!! I think I need to find a 5k of sort for March just to keep my track record!!!
So, highlight of the day was when I finished the race!! I walked to the truck to get dried and warm thinking that I would go out to see Ty finish his race. I looked at the clock and assessed that it has been an hour and 5 minutes since Ty started. I assumed it would take him about an hour and 10 minutes so I planned to get the camera and go out in about 2-3 minutes (due to the continued rain, etc). Well, I look up and low and behold, there is Tyler walking toward the truck..........WHAT?!?! He is DONE ALREADY!!! Weird that it took him a mere 16 minutes longer to run 10 miles then it did me 5, ha ha, Honestly, that is crazy to me!! So, I got out and was like "You are done already" in which he replies "Yah, I just won the whole thing and you weren't even there to see it..............broke the tape and everything....................I was looking for you but couldn't see you", I AM THE WORST WIFE EVER!!!!! I honestly felt so bad!! It was his very first win ever and I totally missed it. Ty told me that he wasn't really mad at me but that he was for sure going to rub my nose in it for a few days!! Sad!!! I am so proud of him but it may take me some serious time to get over my frustrations with myself that I missed it!!!
All in all, it was a good race and fun to go down with Tyler for a fun weekend, despite the cold temps, etc.........we had a lot of fun!!! Sorry about the long post :)
