Ty and I met with the Spanish Fork Running Club at 5:00AM to do a training run.  I then met up with my long time friend and running pal JaNae. It was so  nice to be able to run with a group and to get to know a few of you better.  Thanks to Kim, Jill, Janey (Jae-knee) SP?, Kelly and Son, and the others who rooted us along.  It always makes it so much nicer to run with people.  In fact, Tyler keeps telling me that the only reason I run is to socialize and sometimes I have to completely agree with him.

Monday is traditionally my day to run (based on the schedule that Tyler and I try to stay on) but I am still a little sore today from the half marathon on Saturday (okay, maybe a lot sore) so i decided to by pass my run this morning so that Ty could go and I could get some rest.  However, I decided to go out tonight for just a few quick miles to losen up my legs and see how I felt.  It was okay, but it is just never as easy to run at night after working all day, eating dinner, getting kids to bed, etc.  However, it was still nice to get out regardless and I actually felt pretty good and I think I will be practically recovered by tomorrow.  I just did 3 quick miles.

1st mile : 8:44

2nd mile: 8:17

3rd mile: 7:55

Now, don't any of you go getting jealous on how awesome I am (especially you Ty) :).  But that is what this blog is going to help me with, getting faster!!!!   Nighty nighty now.

Welcome to the blog! Good to have you on board! You have great times, keep up the hustling from your busy life. Its amazing how we fit running into a schedule of raising kids and juggling jobs.

From Kim on Tue, Aug 12, 2008 at 11:54:58

I'm sure Ty was thrilled to let you sleep longer and give him the morning to take his zippy little legs out for a morning run! He's quite the "rookie" runner if you ask me! You had a nice run in the evening! I have a really hard time if I wait until night time to run! Keep up the great juggling act! Like I said to you when we were running together the other morning, I sure wish I would have been making time to run while I had little kids! I'll never make up the 17 years of running that Tom has on me!

This morning I needed someone to run with (again, this is where my social running addiction comes into play) so I called my neighbor Heidi and asked her if she could go.  She just started running within the last year and suffers from asthma so I have been so impressed with her ablitlies, her dedication and perseverance with running, Way to go Heidi!!  To give you all an idea of how great Heidi is doing (along with so many others who are just entering the running phase of their lives) let me share an example.  When I started running several years ago, I was fine with the fact that I was a slow runner.  I averaged a 10 minute mile most of the time and was again, just fine with that.  However, within the last year or so (mainly because my husband is now obsessed with running and good at it, so I have to  make him proud) I have tried to increase my speed and my overall abilities with running.  I remember my first 10K came in at about 1:5 (an hour and 5 minutes), my first half marathon was at 2:11 which I felt great about.  Well Heidi (and my other neighbor who I run with also named Heidi), they decide to start running and on their first 5K race, pop out a 25 minute time, NOT FAIR!!  No, in all honesty, I am so happy for them and proud of them at the same time.  It is my own fault that I have not tested my own boundaries up until now and allowed myself the potential to increase my speed.  So, moral of my story is that it is good to have others to run with and inspire me to push myself to new limits.  With that being said, we had a nice run this morning allowing ourselves the breath to talk about mothering, work, neighborhood news, etc.  It was a great start to a beautiful day~

Well my family and I decided to take one last "hoorah" before school starts. So, on Wednesday so we came down to St. George for some needed Family time and relaxation.  We have had a great time so far and I feel have accomplished our initial goal (at least the relaxation part).  We got down here Thursday morning and so Friday morning I got up and went and swam some laps at the pool (something I have not done for several years). It felt so good to swim and to have a little quiet time.  Then Saturday my friend JaNae (who also ventured to George this weekend) and I decided to go run part of the marathon course.  However, it was a day of blunders.  I met JaNae at the base of the mountain and then we drove up together so that we would have a car up top and at the bottom.  First we start driving up the canyon so I re-set my trip gage (knowing that we wanted to go 10 miles) so that we would know where to start.  Well we are driving along and come to the first place to drop water (thinking it was about 3 miles from the finish) so we stop and drop water and keep going on our way.  Well after another little while, I look down to see how far we have gone and I notice that for some reason (I am sure it had nothing to do with user error) my car was registering Kilometers rather than miles (so yes what we originally thought was 3 miles from the finish was really only like a mile, ha ha).  Anyway, we figure things out, re-set another area of the car to keep track of the miles and head up the road.  We stop at 10 miles up, get out and start running.  It is so beautiful in St. George, there is so much scenery and at so much variety.  There were a ton of runners out along the coarse getting ready for the big day.  We felt pretty good and were trucking along, when we come to 5.3 miles down and JaNae stops suddenly in her tracks and with a large gasp says "Friend (what we call each other), I forgot my key in your car." ..........Yes, that would be my car, the one back up the mountain 5.3 miles.  So, we sit there for a minute and of coarse were like "what other option do we have but to turn around and go back up the mountain?", so we did.  Needless to say, now the sun was coming up, it was a little hotter, we are not used to running hills (let a lone a straight 5 miles worth) and so we struggled a little.  We walked, and ran, and walked and ran, etc until we got back to the car.  We got a little more than we bargained for but all in all, we were in St. George, we were up and out in the morning, we were two friends out running and it was great.  Avg. Pace............ brace yourselves you are going to be impressed 10:27, WAHOOO!!

PS.  Does anyone have any advice for me regarding a small issue.  The last few times I have run, I have a pain in the side of my ankle.  You know that bone on the side of your ankle (the one like a little ball on the side of your foot, don't laugh at me, I am not medically educated), that is where it hurts.  It almost feels like a dense pain deep inside and almost feels like a stress situation.  If anyone has had a similar pain or knows what I can do about it, would you please let me know. Thanks so much!!!

Wow, what a great way to force yourself to put in some hills huh!? Great run and hope to see you more on here. Are you planning any races in the future?

From kellies on Mon, Aug 18, 2008 at 11:45:44

Hey Walter. Yes, I am running Hobble Creek this weekend (under an alias though because I didn't get in so I am taking a friends place who isn't running), so that should be a good one. Otherwise, I just need to start putting in some more miles so that I can improve my overall running and get ready for St. George. How about you? Any races in your near future?

From walter on Mon, Aug 18, 2008 at 11:51:40

Thats good your running it. My wife had to run under an alias on Provo river half. Sometimes you just have to do what you've gotta do.

I am running Top of Utah half saturday and yes im in the same boat as you, I need to get more miles in before St. George.

From kellies on Mon, Aug 18, 2008 at 12:28:03

Wow, good luck Saturday. I want to do that marathon one of these years. How will we ever fit them all in. We (my hubby and I) also want to do Ogden next year and Park City!! TOO MANY!! Good luck, keep up the good work!

From walter on Mon, Aug 18, 2008 at 12:46:56

I know, I have alot of friends doing Hobblecreek this year and I dont believe last year it conflicted with TOU half marathon up in Logan.

If you are planning on Ogden and Park city next year, you should do the grand slam! its only 4 marathons for the year now. I was actually signed up to do Park City this weekend and wussed out on it. That is a tough course up there.

From Kim on Tue, Aug 19, 2008 at 16:40:05

I just ran across this post....what a running adventure! I'm glad "friend" thought of it before you reached the bottom! What doesn't kill you makes you stronger!

I'm glad to see you are running Hobble Creek. Tom can chase Tyler in and I can chase you in!

I had a hard time getting out of bed this morning but once I was up and going, I felt really good. This morning was so beautiful and I can feel the fall temperatures coming into play.   I love this time of year for so many reasons.  However, with school starting this week, I couldn't help but dwell on how much my life is going to change this week (I am sure you can all realate).  However, it is all positive and I am excited for my kids to be back in school, etc.   So, JaNae and I went out this morning.  Ankle felt pretty good, breathing was awesome, and of coarse, the company is always a must.

I hesitate even posting this run, but that is what the Fast Running blog is all about right?  Diligence and honesty.  So, here it goes.  Let's just start by saying, that the phrase my dad pounded into my head as a kid (and all while growing up) has never spoke as loud to me as it did tonight, "You have to take the bitter with the sweet".  To sum up the run tonight, it was definitely one of the more "Bitter" runs I have been on, here is why:

Because I am bound and determined to lose a few pounds (both to feel better about myself and to increase my running abilities) I committed myself to eating better.  So, for breakfast, I just had a bottle of my green tea, then for lunch I had a handful or grapes, a handful of strawberries, some yogurt, a string cheese and a fiber one bar (remember this very important clue, the fiber one bar).  So, by the time I got home at 6:15PM, I was starving and wanted to eat.  Knowing we were going to go running (Tyler and I) I ate enough to satisfy myself, but not get me full.  And, of all things to eat before a run, I opted for Carne Asada (A Mexican meet which I added, avocado, tomato, green onions and lime to) wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla.  So, after eating (about 45 minutes later) we start running, NOT GOOD (I know whoever is reading this is shaking their head).  So, needless to say, I got a bad stomach ache.  Not so much in my side as much in the direct center of my stomach, right below my rib cage.  It felt like the food was lodged right in there.   I thought for sure I was going to throw up, but no, I couldn't be that lucky to get it over and done with and move on.  So, I tried to walk, and breath, and no luck.  I kept walking a few minutes longer and it seemed to be getting a little better, so I started running again and that is where the Fiber one bar came into play :).  Needless to say, it was not my night and I feel bad because I completely and totally ruined Tyler's run, sorry hun.  So, moral of my story:  1. If you are going to diet, at least be smart about it 2. DO NOT, under any circumstance, eat Carne Asada 45 minutes before planning to run 3. DO NOT eat a Fiber One bar on a day you plan to run 4. Always remember that we are human and unfortunately, sometimes you have to take the Bitter with the sweet.  Hopefully I can make up for it tonight.

Kellie, thanks for the post. I did find my key, at the scene of a crime marked by the evidence of TP. So perhaps I am not the one to say, "I eat Fiber One bars almost every day" but I do. But then again I also run with TP on my shoe. I am thinking that is a skill you could acquire, the ability to use the wonder large trees and bushes which the riverbottoms offers to us runners. I am sorry your run didn't go so well, but it is a victory just to do it. One comment on your diet, it seems like you are eating way too little in the first half of your day. I think if you want to lose weight, eat a really large healthy breakfast, then lunch should be the next biggest. Especially when you are a runner, you need fuel, just the right type of fuel. Well, that's more than two cents for you.

From Niki on Wed, Aug 20, 2008 at 15:07:09

One time I ate a huge New Mexican food meal at lunch and then decided to run up the mountain that evening. The food was still there and threatening to come up. That feeling is the tragic end to a good run and the begining of torture. Now I only eat Mexican/New Mexican food on my days off =). Maybe try your fiber bar in the morning for breakfast. You could kick start your metabolism with some fiber. (Hopefully it will do its magic before the run that way.) Good luck!!

From kellies on Wed, Aug 20, 2008 at 15:07:36

Oh good, I am glad to hear that you found your key, mission accomplished. Thank you for the advice about the diet issue. It makes complete sense. I got home for the day and was so hungry that I knew I needed to eat something for dinner because otherwise, I wouldn't have had energy to run at all. However, then I was mad because I probably would have done better to not eat anything. So, I am going to have to try that and see how I feel. So, because you are so much better at this give me some ideas of what I can eat for breakfast. I usually have some yogurt and a piece of toast, or an English muffin (wheat) or some cereal. Are those things okay? You wanted to my dietician today right? Sorry to pester, but if you wouldn't mind divulging your knowledge, I would greatly appreciate it.

From Huans32 on Wed, Aug 20, 2008 at 15:08:43

Great experience. Now you know what not to eat. I have had 2 expierence like that. Mostly with eating spicy hot food. Spicy and speedwork just doesnt work for me or beans. Better to find it out on your training runs then on race day. Hopefully todays run will be alot better.

So last night I was going to run but the hype and craze of the "first day of School" left me with very little time come night fall and worse, no energy.  So, I decided to just do some stretching  and some push ups and sit ups at home instead. It is amazing how limber I used to be (once upon a time when I was younger and a gymnast) and how Un-limber I am now (note to self: stretch more often).  My new anology with life is that whatever you used to have (Pre-children) you give to your children (Brain cells, limberness, energy, metabolism, etc.)  So, the sad part is that I AM SOAR today.  That is pretty sad that 10 minutes of push ups malde me soar (note to self: do more strength training).

So, I decided NO excuses tonight and left my house at 9:50pm for a quick 3 mile jaunt.

1st Mile, 8:12, 2nd mile 8:05 3rd mile 8:03.  Average pace 8:07

I felt pretty good but it was a little hot tonight.  I hope that I am feeling primed and ready to run my best come Saturday (Hobble Creek).  Good Night~

So, I am late in posting my race because I wanted to get the official results posted and assess things in comparison to my watch.  According to my watch I finished at 1:41:54, but the clock had me at 1:42:58, quite a difference.  All in all, it was a great race and It is a beautiful coarse!  I was a little frustrated at first getting over the start line and weeding through the people, but once the road became less congested, it got better. The only other thing that I feel could have helped me is the temperature, I do not perform well under heat, but like Tom said, it was probably good practice for St. George, so I'll take it.    I started the watch when I actually crossed the start line in comparison to when the "siren sounded", so according to my watch, here are my splits.

1. 8:45 (trying to get through the people seemed a lot more difficult this year)

2. 7:45

3. 7:37

4. 7:41

5. 7:41

6. 7:43

7. 7:57

8. 7:38

9. 7:51

10. 7:54

11. 8:01 (darn hill got me, I really wanted to stay under 8 mins on each split, dang)

12. 7:54

13. 7:40

 Average pace: 7:51

So, Kim, in answer to your question, according to the clock, you beat me by 8 seconds.  So, if you would have waited to start your watch when you crossed the start line, you would have actually been at 1:41:48, IMPRESSIVE!!! Way to go!  It was a great race.  It was Heidi and Heidi's first one, they have been training really hard this last year and wanted to do it in under 2 hours, they smoked that by doing it in just under 1:53, WAY TO GO GIRLS!  I just ran Provo a couple of weeks ago at a little over 1:44, and wanted to improve my time by at least 2 minutes, so I feel good about the outcome.  It is my best time so far and so I am happy about it and I must admit, a little proud of myself.  Good job everyone.

Thanks Everyone, for your kind replys. Tom, you are doing awesome!! There are a lot of people that I wish I could say I compared to but unfortunately, that's not the case. I just have to make my own personal goals and if I accomplish them, I feel good about myself. It's hard when I sit back and analyze running. I started running long before Tyler and he started a year and a half ago and blows a lot of people out of the water, it just isn't fair. But, you had a great race and have had a great running career!! And, you get to do it with your wife so that makes it all the better right!!

It's days like today that I don't feel like a runner.  I am still pretty soar from Saturday so I felt like a champ attempting to get 4 miles in today.  Then, I get on the blog and ready how so many of you went like 8, 10, 12 miles today, HOW IN THE HECK?  Worse, I talked to some people in my ward who ran Saturday and asked them if they were soar and they were like "No, I feel pretty good", again, HOW IN THE HECK?  But in any event, it was a beautiful Monday morning and good to get out and get the week started off right (one of these weeks, I am going to actually get more miles in than my husband, NOT!!).

1. 10:27 (walking for the first half in attempts to losen my body up)

2. 8:43

3. 8:43

Is it silly that I always post my exact mileage, like to the tenth mile? I mean, should I just round down to 11 or maybe I should round up to the nearest half??  Really, let me know if there is a correct way to do that :). Today's run was one to talk about and SO MUCH FUN (Thank you again Kim for letting me know about it).  So, I woke up at 4:30 (I think this is the earliest I have woken up in a long time, and a first related to running, aside from the maraton I guess).  I met up with the Spanish Fork Running club for their weekly and my first stab at the Payson Canyon run.  There ended up being 16 of us total so we piled (literally piled) into a suburban to start our drive 11 miles up the canyon.  I swear it took us longer to get up the canyon then it did to run down it (you know how that feels when you are driving and driving and driving and it seems like an eternity).   But it was a great way to start the morning.  The weather was perfect, the company was perfect and I felt really good this morning.  My ankle is still kind of hurting me and I had a few aches in my hips, but all in all, IT WAS GREAT!!  Here are the splits

1. 7:50
2. 7:39
3. 7:44
4. 8:20 (small pit stop and water break between 4&5)
5. 9:33
6. 7:27
7. 7:52
8. 8:19
9. 8:29
10. 8:53
11. 8:05
last .19 miles at 7:19 (way to go out strong right?)   Avg pace= 8:11

Thanks again to all for letting JaNae and I come along.  I think it's a great way to prep us for SG and would love to do it again soon! Here's to a Happy Wednesday :)

Great job honey, I am glad that you were able to get up and go. I have been impressed that you are getting out of bed and going. Monday I thought there would be a definate phone call to Janae for a cancelation. So way to prove me wrong. You better start making airline reservations to BOSTON.

From amber on Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 13:05:17

Great job on your run! How do you have time to do that with three kids and a job? That is really impressive to me. Good luck on your training for the SG marathon. Last year I hooked up with the 3:30 pace group and it was great. The pacer would tell you when to slow down or speed up, and how to sip water while running through the water stations. Thanks for all you've done for Steve and I! We really appreciate it. Nate said that you were the best, and he was right!

From kellies on Sat, Aug 30, 2008 at 22:10:34

Amber, Thank you so much for the nice comment and the advice about the pacer. I have really been nervous about the whole "qualifying" thing. I think i will take your advice and find that 3:30 group and hope to stay relatively close to them.

It helps working with great clients such as yourselves so thank you for making my job so much fun. I will be talking to you soon!!!

I was lucky to go running today because Thursday morning is not usually my morning.  However, Tyler was meeting with a friend this afternoon to run in Park City so he let me go out.  I met with the Heidis' at 6:00 for a 5 mile route.  I am a little soar from the Payson canyon run yesterday (not as soar as I thought I would be), so it was nice to get out and try to let my muscles losen up and as always, to have some good company.  Plus, the weather was perfect this morning, I love this time of year.

I am taking tomorrow off because Ty is going fishing early so I am excited to sleep in a little and get ready for a long run on Saturday Morning.  Now that the day is half over I hope it's a good one for all.

This morning we (Tyler, JaNae and I) met up with the SF group for the traditional Saturday morning long run.  We went a total of 20 miles (well JaNae and I did, Ty went 24 and still beat us by 20 minutes, good job Ty).  We started at the stake center up on the Spanish Fork bench and then ran down river bottoms road, to Spanish Fork Main Street, out to Leland, around the new ball park, back into the river bottoms, up to power house road, into Salem (up Harry's Hill), into Woodland Hills area, then back to Power House road and back to the Stake Center (Wow, that sounds really long as I am typing this).  It was so great to run with the group and visit during the run. I am really enjoying that!  It's surreal to think that we just have 2 more weeks of long runs before tapering for the Marathon, it is going to come fast.  It always brings such a sense of accomplishment to run that many miles in one day and has become something I really look forward to.  I tried to stop my watch when we stopped for drinks, etc, but forgot one time, then we walked a couple of times too so when all was said and done, the average pace showed 9:45.  Not nearly as fast as I need to be or wanted to be, but again, i did forget to stop my watch a lot so I think when running, we averaged about a 8:50-9:00 pace. I need to step it up a bit to get down to and maintain that 8:20 pace for the marathon.    Good thing I still have a whole 5 weeks to do that. A big thanks to Kim and Caroline for the company this morning too, it is always so good to talk to you both.

Race: Payson Onion Days 10k (6.2 Miles) 00:47:29, Place overall: 9, Place in age division: 2
Total Distance

The good old Payson Days 10K run.  I actually have a little bit of centimental feelings toward this race because many years ago, it was the first 10K that I ran (thanks to Aly Dart).  However, back then the coarse was different and I did not have a good time (in either pace or experience).  I remember that by the end of the race, I really thought I might die and my family would have to come and recover me from off the side of the road.  However, today was great.  Tyler and I decided last minute to run and so our little cousin came over to sleep with the kids so that we could go.  I was a little concerned this morning when I woke up to the sound of rain (at 5:30am) and had actually somewhat convinced myself that I would not be running today. But, we decided to get up and drive over to see what happened closer to the start time and go from there.  The weather actually ended up to be, in my opinion, perfect.  It was a little chilly at first and during the race we actually even got a little rain to help keep me cool and energized.  I do not run well under heat (all the more reason I am worried about the SGM) so today worked in my favor I think.  I came in 2nd in my age group (which is a first in a LONG TIME, thanks to a smaller groud then some of the other races I have been too recently) and I actually felt really really good during the entire coarse.  My total time came in at 47:29 so I averaged a 7:38.  This was my fastest 10K to date so again, that made me feel pretty good.  But the highlight of my day was meeting some fellow bloggers (Hello out there Marion and Kelli) and partaking of what might have been the BEST banana chocolate chip pancakes smothered in buttermilk syrup, YUMMY, after the race!!! That was very very nice of you Marion, Thank you!!!  I look forward to the next few weeks of training in preperation for the SGM, I am really really hoping to qualify for Boston, I need to both physically and mentally train over these next few weeks.      It was a great race and a great start to a new week!!

So, we have the same opinions on running in the heat. It worries me also. I am praying for cooler weather in St George. Let's pray for it together.

Good luck the next 5 weeks before the BIG ONE!!! I hope you qualify for Boston!

Good job on the race. It was nice to see you and Tyler, I didn't really introduce myself, but it was nice seeing/meeting you. Fun to chat with people that have the same interests.

I'm betting on you and Kelli getting a BQ in St George.

From Sasha Pachev on Tue, Sep 02, 2008 at 18:13:07

KellieS - I think 3:40 in St. George is within reach, but you would have to work for it, and it would have to be a good day. That is assuming if you were to race right now. My concern is your lack of consistent training, which can throw a curve ball in the last 6 miles. Do not skip days. Get out 6 days a week, no excuses or exceptions. This would be your best bet against a bad crash in the second half.

Otherwise your 10 K speed should easily allow sub-3:30.

From kellies on Wed, Sep 03, 2008 at 00:36:53

Sasha, thank you so much for your opinion and advise. I know that I need to be training more and some way can always find an excuse to get out of a day here and there but I know that I need to be running more and am going to try really hard to follow your advise and see what I can arrange. Thank you again for your time in looking at my times and giving me your opinion, I appreciate it!! Take Care!

Very late night run tonight but after Sasha's advise, I have to try harder to run more consistant during the week.  So I left my house at 9:00 tonight to go for a quick little jaunt.  I got some new shoes that I wanted to try out too, so that was a little added motivation to get homework done, the house tidied, kids to bed and be on my way (thanks for your help in accomplishing this Ty).  I felt really good tonight and might I just set the record straight (in case I have not made it known before) that I LOVE THIS WEATHER!!!!!  I run so much better when there is a little chill in the air.  So, here are my splits.

1. 8:06

2. 8:00

3. 7:45

last .7 = 7:37.  Avg pace 7:54.

The shoes were awesome, I really think I am going to like them and I just want to get them a little more broken in so that I can run in them for the marathon.  Can you believe it is less than 5 weeks away?   CRAZY!!!  Now that I have been blogging (both on my family site and running site) and it is after 11:00PM I think it's time to hit the sack.  Night night ya'll.

Good job Kellie, glad the shoes were a success. Hopefully you can get out earlier tonight.

From Kelli on Wed, Sep 03, 2008 at 15:43:40

WOW---fast!!! I only run that face on a race day. I am so slow otherwise. I do not know where my speed comes from (could it be the drill Sgt. yelling at me to keep up and go faster??)

And, I LOVE this weather, too! Perfect. No hotter, no colder. The park is pleasant during the day, you do not have to use your air conditioner at home, it cools down at night for running, and so on. LOVE IT!

So, do you run better at night or in the morning? Just wondering if we really were separated at birth.

From Kelli on Wed, Sep 03, 2008 at 23:39:23

Hey, it just dawned on me. You ran the marathon last year when your baby was like 6 months old (or less)??? WOW.

From kellies on Wed, Sep 03, 2008 at 23:56:58

Kelli "with an I", Sorry I am just getting back on the FRB to post my nights run and saw your comments from earlier. I think our genetic similarities may have just come to a screeching halt. Ha Ha. Actually sometimes I feel better at night and other times I feel terrible at night. But for the most part, I would rather run in the morning, it just seems to get my day started off better. I think it all depends on the type of day I have had, what I have eaten and what I have on my mind. Majority of the time my nights are so consumed that I have to peel myself away from my house and allow myself to go and run. Plus, there are so many nights that I am so tired, the thought of running is about the last thing on my mind. However, with that being said, i also am not a morning person. I love my sleep and by nature am a night owl, but a lazy night owl who wants to clean my house, do laundry (uh ha), pack bags and play on the computer until the wee hours of the morn. So, anyway, moral of my story is if there was a way to let me stay up until mid-night each night, sleep in until 8:00-9:00am each day, then run when I got up in temperatures, just like today's, that would be the perfect schedule for me. Now, if only that were practical!!!

Yeah, my baby was 5 1/2 months old last year when I ran the marathon but I had run up until I was about 8 months pregnant (okay, jog rather, maybe even trudged along) So I think that helped me get back on the wagon pretty easy. But I did feel pretty accomplished. Again, all the more reason that I have pressure to improve this year, geeezzz!!!

It's good to hear from you Thanks for the Post Kelli, talk to you soon :)

From Kelli on Thu, Sep 04, 2008 at 10:22:44

I do feel the same way about running at night---it is hard to get out, I hate showering again, bla bla bla, but I just run better at night speedwise and lead legs wise! I have to be careful what I eat when I am running at night, and it has to be at least 3 hours before I run.

Way to go on the running pregnant!

Another late night run tonight, however, I got out a little earlier (8:30) and at least tonight it seemed like Salem was a little more "alive".   Last night when I went out it was very nice weather but seemed like a Ghost town around here.  And for the record, can I just speak my voice here and say one thing that Salem lacks, Street Lights.  I think that the city would really benefit from some street lights over here.  At least for us runners, that should stand for something right?  Ha ha.

Tonight was better though.  There was a ball game going on (we live about a mile away from a ball park) so the lights were on.  There were people out and I just felt a little more comfortable being out on the open roads by my lonesome old self.  I went a total of 5 miles tonight and averaged a 8:02 pace over all.  For some reason these last two nights have seemed much easier to run at this pace.  I don't know if it's because I am just becoming a better, more skilled runner (Hey, I got skills.........yeah right) or if it is because it is dark outside and I am a scaredy cat just running my butt off to get home faster??  Really, every little noise scares me and as I run I am just sure that some wild beast is going to come out and attack me and there will be nobody around to hear my screams for help.. .....  Okay, a little dramatic there.

In any event, my breathing has felt pretty good, shoes are great, body feels good and when I get home, I am so glad that I went out and that I am done for the day.  We are officially just 30 days from the marathon.  Wow, that is coming quick.  Night night.  I am checking in early tonight.

Cool run! The threat of impending DOOM always makes me go faster. Do you have a id tag on your shoes? They are cheep at walmart and then if you get splatted, the shoe can tell them who to call :) Also, I have planned that if I get snatched, I will leave my shoe behind for CSI to find. I have this all worked out :) I should have been a boy scout!

From marion on Fri, Sep 05, 2008 at 15:57:54

I actually got the tags at first because I thought I might DIE while running :)

From Kelli on Fri, Sep 05, 2008 at 20:44:40

I have thought the same thing! But, instead of tags, I bring my husband!! Little did I know what I was setting myself up for on that one!

We were headed to dinner tonight (Panda Express---I am such a good eater) and he was talking about doing a triathlon. We started talking about my friends husband who does it and how he is so obsessive about it and how much time and money it takes. Scott said, "Oh, I would just do it for exercise, I wouldn't be obsessive." I about choked on my gum. He laughed and had this wicked little smile...Great!!! Another addiction for him.

Today was not an actual "mile" day, but a work out none the less and here is why.  I used to be both a cheerleader and a member of the Las Chalitas Drill team, back in my "glory" high school days (that were all but glorious).  There are times that I am both proud of this and also a little embarrassed, but it was times like today that I am very thankful for those memories, those friendships and just the idea of having a "personal THING" that I was and can be a part of.  The drill coach during my time on Drill team is still doing it today. In fact, she has been the Drill Team Advisor/Coach for I think going on 30 years now.  However, she has decided to quit this ever so long obligation as Advisor next year to move on to bigger and better things.  So, she has put together a "Drill Team Reunion" for all of the girls that have been on the drill team since she has been the advisor.  What we do now is learn a dance and perform it at where else?  THE HOME COMING FOOT BALL GAME HALF TIME!!!!!!  So, tonight we met for the reunion and learned a dance accoring to our era.  OH, it was funny!!  I am an absolute un-cord, it was comical.  But it was great to see old friends, have some "me" time and learn some moves.  We will see our presentation goes Friday night at the ball game.  Good times!!!

This morning was the first time in a LONG TIME that I have had to run by myself and let's just say that "I enjoy running so much more when I have someone to go with".  It was a little harder (Okay okay, maybe a lot harder) to get out of bed knowing that I had nobody outside waiting for me to go and for some reason, I could not get  my body going this morning.  Maybe I am more like Kelli then I thought and it takes me 3-4 miles before I can get into a groove??  So, I trudged through the first 3 miles and then after that started feeling pretty good.  It is always a great way to start a day and to get some needed miles in.  However, for future case, I prefer running with someone.  Hint hint..................!

This morning Tyler and I, along with Mike L, went out for our "easy" training run.  It was such a beautiful morning again with the fall, crisp mornings that I love so much.  Seriously, I am having a much easier time getting up to go running these last few days, then i was back in July, I love this weather, It motivates me (for the 20th time now).  Anyway, Mike came up to our house and we left from here to run the same coarse Tyler ran on Thursday.  It was actually the first time that Tyler and I have run together all year, so it was very nice and fun to run with him for a change.  I guess pretty much our date for the weekend.  Tyler had to take it easy today because he is running the last 26 mile leg of the Wasatch 100 with a friend starting at Mid-night tonight.  He left our house at 12:00(noon) to help run some errands, pick people up and drop them off, etc.., then will start running at mid-night and expects to finish about 8:00am in the morning (yes, I am starting to think he is borderline crazy).  Do you realize that this would mean Tyler will put in more miles in a single day, then I did in an entire week, CRAZY!!!  But, if he has the motivation to do it, then I am proud of him for that.

Anyway, back to my run today.  So at about 9 miles in, we actually ran into the group running the Spanish Fork half marathon.  At first I kind of felt dumb but then it became pretty fun to watch that a little bit and not have the pressures of running it competitively.  Okay, that is a lie, when I saw them all running, I wished that I was running with them.   We saw Sasha, Michelle, and Tom, Kent Wing, some fellow bloggers (I know I am forgetting some) and then the Purple Ponytail caught my eye (Kim) so I ran with her for just a minute.  She was just sailing along like it was nothing.  GOOD JOB KIM ON TAKING 1ST PLACE IN YOUR AGE DIVISION, YOU ROCK!!!.

So, All in all it was a great morning and fun to be out among so many trained and skilled runners.  I am looking forward to the Payson Canyon 22 mile run next week before I start to taper in pursuit of the SGM, Yikes, It's COMING..............................

Monday morning..... what it is about Mondays??  Sometimes on Monday I feel rested, refreshed ready to take on a new week, a new task, a new achievement.  Other times, I feel tired, exhausted, ready to do none of the above.  So, for this Monday I felt................ the later of the two, tired and exhausted.  I don't know why but I just had a hard time getting up and going this morning.  Maybe it is because I averaged about 5 hours of sleep both Friday and Saturday night,.....hmmmmm, yeah, maybe that had something to do with it!?!

Okay, enough belly aching.  I met JaNae at 6:00 and we did a quick 4 mile run around the river bottoms and ball park area.  There we a lot of people out this morning and we passed Michelle L while we were out.  It was dark though so I am  not sure she realized that it was me, so, Hey Michelle!! Actually it was probably because she zipped past us so fast that we hardly even saw her, that was really the case (speedy woman).  After I was done I felt really good though and was glad that we had gone out (thanks JaNae).

I ran today!!  It is now 10:20pm and I just walked in the door from running but never the less, I ran.  This morning, I was supposed to go with Heidi but I woke up with a soar throat and decided it was my bodies polite way of telling me to sleep in (at least that is what I told myself my body was telling me).  So I slept in (sin #1) hoping that I would go later tonight.  Then, I went to work and committed sin #2, I ate a chocolate donut (yes, Kelli, I know you have already forgiven me for this), not to mention a few little candy caramels ( i don't know what was with me today).  Then I worked late, ran to piano lessons, then came home had a quick bite to eat (pizza, of all healthy things, but Tyler made it so I appreciated that).  Then ran out the door to Young Women's, then walked in the door at about 8:45 giving me enough time to say goodnight to the little ones, visit with Ty for a minute and then JaNae came over to meet me for our run.  So, we walk outside at about 9:30 and just as we walk outside, it starts to rain.  I sit for a minute thinking, is this a sign that I should not go running......... then guess what popped into my head?  Donut, pizza, etc...... you NEED to go running.  So, despite the rain, the wind and the time of night, we did, we ran.   And, the best part is that I felt GRRREAATTTT!!!(imagine the Wheeties Tiger saying that when you read that part).  I don't know if it was the sheer knowledge of knowing I had an extra 1000 calories to burn, my new shoes (thanks for the re-lace Ty), the company, or the rain?  I think it was a combination of all the above.  Now, I am going to go shower and maybe get some reading in to calm me down so that I can get to sleep to meet JaNae again in the morning.   Night.

JaNae and I met again this morning (after our wet and wicked run last night :)) for another morning run.  I have to be honest, it was much easier for me to run last night then it was this morning which is usually the exact opposite of how things work for me, weird.  We ran the same loop as Monday only backwards this time (and with a little pit stop in between).  We got a little rain this morning as well but no where near what it was like last night.  It was a good start to a Wednesday and good to get out on Wednesday (since my husband is still in recovery, I am trying to take advantage of the rare occasions this week).

It was wet and cold. But better than hotter than heck, right?

See, you are turning in to me. Night runs are easier, you are more awake. But I hate the late night shower and going to bed with wet hair.

From marion on Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 13:09:35

Great run! WAy to get out there every day! I am with Kelli- cold and rain is better than HOT HOT HOT!!! :D

Is Rachel Gordon on the blog? I was talking to Lindy Gordon (Cowan) and she was telling me what a speedster RAchel is.

From kellies on Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 00:28:53

Yes, AMEN. I will take, breezy, rainy, or chilly any day over Hot, I do not do well in heat.

Kelli: Night runs are becoming so much easier for me. I think that you are transferring your positive energy and abilities to me through blogging. Keep it coming....

Marion: I know Rachel very well. Her husband and my husband are practically best friends. She is not on the blog. And yes, she is fast.

So, three good things about today:

1. I Did NOT have a chocolate donut

2. I accomplished my visiting teaching for the month

3. I got to go running again with my husband for the week, wow am I lucky or what?

There were many other good things today, such as waking up to a beautiful day, had a good day at work today, getting past the 7 year anniversary of September 11th, and tonight Tyler had a ball game and so he took the two older boys with him and I got to have a solid hour and a half with my baby all to myself. Good day today!

So, tonight we had a girl from the ward (thanks Lexi) come and sit with the boys (who were all in bed asleep) so that we could go for a run. I have to take advantage of these last few and ever so precious days of recovery for Tyler. So we left our house at 9:00 and ran "the 5 mile square." This is the same coarse I did the other night in the rain, however much more enjoyable this time because there was a full moon so the road was more lit and there was no rain. I felt really good tonight and we managed to keep a good pace.

I am on my 4th day solid of running this week and have plans to go tomorrow morning and then again on Saturday so Yes, I am prematurely going to pat myself on the back for going 6 straight days in a row of running for the FIRST TIME IN HISTORY!! I figure if I am going to be on this blog, I have to step it up a notch so I am trying. Now it's time for shower and sleep. Night~

Marion, you are too kind. I would love to get to that point of running and maybe even running more miles in a given day without it even phasing me, nice thought. Maybe I will just envision it in my head and make it seem like a reality!?!

Hope you have a great Friday!!

You'll get there :)

Hey I forgot to congratulate you on your GREATEST accomplishment- #2. Some time after I had my third child, housekeeping and Visiting Teaching died for me :( You have got a MAJOR leg up on me sister! Way to go! As for the donut- I am a plain raised glazed girl :) I will only eat the chocolate ones is there is nothing at all left :) You and I should not eat donuts together. Between the both of us, we'd lick the platter clean ;D

Man, it must be the week for the "5 mile square", but it's a good one and so I will keep at it.  Why is it that Pre-FRB, I would have felt amazing knowing that I had run 5 miles a day but now Post-FRB, I feel so lazy, whimpy and inadequate only running 4-5 miles a day.  OH, I know why!!  Because there are people like Michelle, Kim, Kelli, Marion, Tom, Tyler, etc. who are running 10 miles a day, and also biking and doing yoga, What the heck!??!?! How in the heck!?!?!  Not fair!! (yes, I am now laying on the ground kicking and screaming).  HA HA, just kidding, I am proud of all of you, for real!!

I met up with Heidi C this morning (thanks for getting me out Heidi) for a nice little 5 mile run.  Because I sat up blogging until mid-night last night, I had a rather hard time getting out of bed and getting my body to move but by about 3 miles in, I was feeling much better.  Heidi is such a sweet heart and so much fun to run with, I always enjoy our visits.  Now I am at work wishing I was out running again.  But John Mayer rockin on my i pod is keeping me content, I love the man!!  Looking forward to our long Saturday run tomorrow and then a day of rest, yeah!!

Man, this is why I love you!! Yes, I loved the cheerleading and it did make me feel so much better. And, the stars were just the whip cream on top. I am so nervous about this qualifying thing that it almost makes me sick. What will I do if I miss qualifying by 2 or 3 minutes? I would be okay either totally dogging it, like coming in 15 minutes later, but can you imagine how tough that would be to miss it by just a few measily minutes?? I guess that is running for you!! We would be very dangerous eating donuts togethe because I do not care for the glazed ones, I need Cake donuts, so we can meet at Krispy Kream, get a dozen variety and split them straight down the middle. Okay, I am going to envision myself doing that too and maybe it will satisfy as if I had actually eaten them.............. not working......................not working...........still not working. Dang, I think we are just going to have to meet there then.

Have a great Friday too. You ROCK!!!

Thinking about the dounuts NEVER works :D As for the BQ- don't even think about it. All you really want to do is have a good day, a fun race. If you can beat your AWESOME time from last year- yee haw!!! If you BQ, I am taking you to Krispy Kream :D If you don't BQ and the race is a total DISASTER- I am taking you to Krispy Kream! Either way, you get to have a fun weekend in SG with all of your new & old friends and you get your dounuts!!!!

However, in my mind's eye I see myself crashing right through any wall that tries to stop me! We'll see..

Wahoo!!! I did it!! I ran 6 days this week!!  I am now officially celebrating!!!

Today was a great run and coarse for a long mile training run.  We (Tyler and I) met up with Michelle, Josie, JaNae and Kyle at the Mapleton part before loading up and driving to the 7 mile marker from the Hobblecreek Half.  We then ran up to the start line of the half marathon coarse and all the way out, giving us a total of 20 miles.  My watch was not working too well on the way up so I have no idea what pace we averages (Tyler estimates about a 9:25) then we had a quick little break up top before hitting the down hill.  Tyler, Michelle and Josie (aka "The Speedsters"), took off before I even had a chance to say goodbye and so I hung with JaNae and Kyle for a couple miles before taking off to do my own thing.  I stopped a few time and forgot to stop my watch so according to the watch, it showes an average pace of 8:02, but I think I was really more around 7:45-7:55 while running.  When all was said and done, I was only a minute later then when I finished the Hobble Creek half, so I felt really good about that.  Now we get to start tapering so I am prety excited for that!!

Thanks again to all for a great day of running and helping me get in 6 full days this week for the first time ever!!!   Good Week!!!

Oh, P.S. If  any of you get a chance, check out Michelle's post.  If you read it very carefully there is a part that talks about her having a hard time keeping up with me, really!!!  I am not lying :D, just thought you would all like to know that, ha ha ha~

Wow, I am super impressed. That is so fast. I think you need to be my pacer for the St George Marathon---I will be looking for you!

Josse: It was so nice meeting you, I really enjoyed visiting with you and finally putting a face with a name. You are a great runner and I have learned a lot from you and your blog. I hope that we get to run together again soon.

Marion: Thanks for the post. It was a great week and I feel that I benefited from it tremendously! You get some chocolate cake donuts and come out to SGM, I think I can definitely qualify for Boston!! Actually I think I am equally excited about the huge piece of bread they give you at the end of marathon with an inch of butter on it. The best part is you just got done running a marathon so there is absolutely NO GUILT!! Those are good times!

Kelli: I do not want to hold you back, but I would love to pace with you at SGM. If you are serious, you just let me know and we will meet up when we get down there. But not pressure. I was actually told to get with the 3:30 group and try to hang with them, so I am thinking that is what I might do, we will have to see. Where are you guys staying (you can private email me if you prefer). Any tarantulas out today? I guess you are posting so that is a good sign :)

From Kelli on Sun, Sep 14, 2008 at 00:56:38

3:30!! Wow, but I do think that is where you belong. Really, I am not shooting that high---like I said, you are faster!

We are staying in my great aunts house (she has 2) in Washington---just kind of over by the mall.

I did it! I ran today!! Now before you start forming opinions or yelling at me because of my lapse in running (I know that is what you were thinking), I do have a rather good excuse for my laziness.  I actually had to go in Monday for a minor surgery on my throat (esophagus).  I was pretty out of it Monday and then didn't feel very well yesterday so I just got out this morning.  In all honesty, if I would not have know that the Heidi's (Heidi W and Heidi C) were waiting for me, I probably would not have gotten out of bed this morning either.  But after I was up and running, it felt so good to be out, so Thanks Heidi's.  We did the 5 mile square and then it was off to a usual morning.  I felt really good today and again, it was just so nice to be out.  Just a few short days until the marathon (17 to be exact).  Have a great "hump day".

Sorry to hear you had to have surgery! I guess you must be doing well to be out and running 2 days later!

Seventeen days is awfully close! It was easier to think of running a marathon when I was counting 26 weeks away. It's getting a little scary to think of doing my first marathon. But I look at people like you who have lived through one already and are up to doing another one and that keeps me motivated!

From marion on Wed, Sep 17, 2008 at 12:04:04

I hope th e surgery went well :) Glad to see you could run today! Yeah! Nice pace :)

From kellies on Wed, Sep 17, 2008 at 12:25:00

I just had to have my esophagus stretched. I have a small throat and so I choke on food all of the time. I actually had to have this done last July and then again Last September so you would think that it would just be an easy thing for me. However, this time, they stretched it until it perforated, so that has been a little harder to recover from. Each day gets a little better though so I think I should be good as new in no time.

Kim: After I got done with the marathon last year, I looked at Tyler and said "do you have any desire to do another one" and we both said, in sync, "YEAH"!! We were addicted from the very start. You will see. It was really one of the most rewarding, exciting, humbling, emotional, empowering, experiences I have ever gone through; from the very start to the finish line. It was hard at times (as expected), but when I crossed that finish line, I cried because of the sense of accomplishment that I felt. All of those months of training, all of the years of saying "I wanted to run a marathon" were now a reality!! You are going to do awesome and love it. You have worked hard both physically and mentally and you are going to do awesome!! I get so excited for you because like last year was my first time, I know exactly what your first time is going to be like. I am excited for this year too, but there is nothing like that first year. It makes me very excited for you!!!

Marion: Next year, you are going to be with us!! You too are amazing and inspire me to be the best I can be. I was looking at your personal blog the other night and am really so impressed with how well you have done with Weight watchers and everything. From your positive outlook and excitement toward life, to your 2 1/2 hour work outs each day, I admire you and am so thankful that I have had the opportunity to meet you on the FRB. Rock on my sole, donut sister :)

From marion on Wed, Sep 17, 2008 at 12:52:39

I will be there FOR SURE next year! I am signing up for the series Oct 6th. Did you guys do the series or were you just lucky and got in twice in a row?

From kellies on Wed, Sep 17, 2008 at 13:11:32

No, we did the series both years and that is how we got in. I am a little nervous this year though because the series is getting more known about and I worry that we won't get in this year. I tried to get in back in 2006 (with the traditional lottery way) and was unsuccessful. So, I got in for 2007 and then again for this year using the series. We better be right on top of it this year. I think that the series is a lot of people's idea on how they are getting in so we better get our game faces on!!

So, do you have to continue to have that surgery for the rest of your life?? It sounds painful. Is your throat sore? Way to get out there and be running already! You are amazing!

From kellies on Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 00:48:57

Hey Kelli, now that it is almost 11:00pm, I am checking my blog, etc. So sorry about the delay in getting back to you. Yes, the Dr. says it is a chronic condition and will be something that I will have to have continue throughout my life. However, if I am good at taking my meds, I can prolong the time between surgeries. So, all the more reason to take my meds right?. Yes, my throat is soar, and it hurts to eat and drink. But its better to have it hurt to eat and have a full belly then not to eat and be hungry. I didn't eat much between Monday and Tuesday and so by last night I felt like I had NO ENERGY!! So, today I made up for some last time. It is better today and like my dad always says "it'll feel better when it quits hurting". Words of wisdom to live by! I want to talk to you more about the marathon. By saying that I wanted to get with the 3:30 pacers, I am in not way intending to run it in 3:30, but I think it would be a good thing to try and stay somewhat close to them. I just want to finish in 3:40. What are your thoughts. Do you have a time you are trying to run it in?

From Kelli on Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 13:46:39

You know me, I hate to say what my goal is! In fact, I hate to have a goal. I am officially going to try to qualify for Boston if I feel it! Scott and I just plan to run together and do as best as we can. We made a little pace bracelet for 3:40, so we will see.

I do , however, believe that you could do 3:30. You are great!

Hope you are feeling great today and able to eat more! Heck, go get a chocolate donut on me!

Isn't consistency a beautiful thing.  I mean really I would rather know/assume what my day is going to be like over having surprises thrown at me all day (in less they are fun, exciting surprises of course :)).  The reason I start with that disclaimer today is because you are going to be so surprised what I did today......... are you ready....................... you sure.....................  I ran, the 5 mile square!!!!  I told you, I knew you would be surprised!!  In all actuality, this little 5 mile quare is a great route and feels more like 3 miles.  It is flat, one little gradual incline and then flat again.   You know how there are routes that you run on for 3 miles and it feels like it's been 10 miles (that is also the way it is for me on a treadmil), and then there are routes that are 10 miles and they feel like 5-6 miles. I felt good today, it was a beautiful morning, good route, and Heidi C and I went out again together, so add conversation to the mix and voila, a masterpiece!!

Thanks Ty for taking the early shift again so that I could go run this morning. I told you, I think I can get used to this schedule, really!!!

Glad you are recovering from the esophageal stretching. Sounds like no fun, but at least you'll be able to swallow what ever your #1 top bad food will be right after the marathon. I'm still debating what my bad meal will be. I am thinking a huge burger and fries from a sit down restaurant. And a coke ;) And not diet either!

From TylerS on Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 12:31:52

We will be going to Marv's for a great big cheese burger and fries.. It is a great place to eat that kind of food.

From kellies on Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 12:37:21

Thanks Michelle!! I know, I have had these same thoughts many times over the last few weeks. I am not one to usually go get a candy bar, so last year being my first marathon, JaNae, gave me a goody bag full of things that I would need for the marathon. It consisted of things like immodium, garbage bag, icy hot, some gu's, bubble bath and lotion and then there was a bottle of diet coke and a snickers bar. She gave me strict instructions that after the marathon, I was to go home, get in the tub and eat the snickers bar and drink the diet coke. Being the obedient person I am, I had to follow her instructions and it was really HEAVEN. I also LOVE the big huge piece of bread they give you at the finish, covered in butter and the best part is that there is NO GUILT!!! What more could you ask for?

From marion on Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 13:16:04

Way to go Kellie! You are a running MAD woman! Welcome to the "I run daily because I'm nuts" club. Michelle is the president and I am the club salsa maker, well I will be tomorrow!

Have a great day and I'm ever so glad you are recovering well! :D

From MichelleL on Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 13:27:50

Kellie - I didn't have bread with butter. I had an ice cream drumstick and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Tyler - I'll need to look it up. Sounds good. Do they have Coke products ???

Marion - you are so funny. You know, they have tortilla chips that are way yummy with one gram of fat per serving (olestra-gotta love it!).

From kellies on Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 13:38:55

Marion: Can I be the vice-president, I feel I could really be an asset to the club!!

From marion on Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 13:43:37

DIET PEPSI! ;)

Michelle- which brand of chips?

I would eat the bread AND the ice cream cone! And 100% for sure go eat the worlds biggest burger with swiss cheese, avacado, bacon and blue cheese with fries covered in cheese and bacon! I guess I need to eat my lunch :) I wonder how many calories is is to think about that meal?

From marion on Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 14:24:44

Of course you can be the vice president! You'd be a wonderful asset to the club ;)

From Kelli on Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 14:36:25

Great job again. Consistency is good as long as you do not get bored. My brain gets bored so easily, I am a simple person!

An Iceberg opened just around the corner from my house about 6 weeks ago. I told myself I could not go there until after the marathon. So, I will be hitting Iceberg. if they do not have one in St George, I will drive to the one in Cedar City! I want the biggest mint chocolate chip shake they make, a hamburger, lots of fries and a big Dr Pepper!

Now I am hungry.

Kellie --

Tyler told me to check out your blog ... glad I did. Wonder if you will ever run your 5 mile square again!!?? :)

I'm hoping that we will see quite a bit of each other at SG. I need a 3:45 to qualify but I think I will aim for a 3:39ish. We'll see what October 4th brings.

From Kelli on Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 15:01:10

Teena-don't you need a 3:40 to qualify? Aren't we the same age?

I actually only need a 3:45 since I turn 35 a few weeks after SG. Fortunately your BQ time holds for 18 months and it correlates with your age at Boston, not when you qualified. I looked into it about a dozen times!! :)

From Kelli on Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 15:13:23

Oh, I am so slow!!! I thought you had said 3:35!!! Da! I was confused. I turn 35 in February, so do I get to do 3:45, too??

From Teena on Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 15:14:56

Yep!! :)

From Teena on Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 15:16:16

Kellie, btw ... I love your running picture!! I don't think I have EVER had a decent running picture ... should make it one of my SGM goals!! :)

From Kelli on Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 15:18:05

Well, then, KELLIE, I now get 5 more minutes so I can slow down. You are on your own to get the 3:40!!!

And her picture is cute. I just tried to change mine, but it cut off half my face and is WAY too big! Now I can not find another one to put on.

From Teena on Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 15:20:59

Btw -- tried to fix my pic so it doesn't cut off Ryan. Did it work? I seem to see the whole thing no matter what. (Sorry Kellie for taking up so much room on your blog.)

From Kelli on Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 15:24:53

Kellie loves us, it is okay! And we will get her into the hot discussion forum soon enough!

Nope, Ryan is still gone. I thought you were a single mom with 5 kids and was so impressed! Then I figured out it was you and wondered where Ryan was. If you right click on the picture, it will blow it up and then I can see him. It is the cutest picture, though! I love it.

From Teena on Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 15:27:11

Okay ... I am so frustrated!! Why doesn't it show up without right clicking it?? I'm going to try again.

From kellies on Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 15:36:30

Yeah!!! Blog on!! I am finally getting as many comments on my page at Kelli, I am a rock star!! Teena, it is nice to talk to you and I would love to find you and run a bit of the marathon coarse together. I would actually like to run all of it with you fast folk but I fear I may hold you back. And... now that I need to finish 5 minutes faster then both of you, I am a little frightened, way to go!! I am sold on Kelli's idea, we can run together and let Scott be our drill seargant, COUNT ME IN!!! I think its a deal. Thanks for the comment on my running picture, I don't think it is that cute but it's better than the other ones of me doing my usual fist pump (long story, good conversation piece for the marathon don't you think??).

From Kelli on Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 15:40:45

Waitin' on pins and needles for the story. I like the picture because you are SMILING!

From Teena on Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 15:44:58

I am not in if Kelli is serious about the 3:30!! However, if you are talking more on the lines of 3:37 - 3:39, that might be doable!

From Kelli on Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 15:53:30

I do not even think I could do 3:30 on a bike! According to the race predictors I should be around 3:37 or so, so we can shoot for that!

From kellies on Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 22:46:56

I have no idea what you guys are talking about with your pace, etc. Look at your times at races, you guys ROCK!!! I better start working on my play lists so that I have some good, inspirational music to keep me pumping a long since I am going to be doing it alone, geeeeeeezzzzzz!!!! JK!! You guys just breath easy knowing you have 5 extra minutes on me and I will go wallow in self pity!!

From Kelli on Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 09:56:18

So, you are going to dare to bring you iPod?? I am undecided. I hate running without it, but I do not want to get disqualified either!

I have some great rap music! Bring your iPod down and we will load it up!

From Anonymous on Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 10:39:57

If the iPod makes you run better, go for it. No one is getting DQ'd, don't even worry.

Wow, what a Friday(long story, I will spare you the details).  It is now 6:00pm, I am still at work and just posting my morning run.   Interesting enough that it has been almost exactly 12 hours since I started running.  Okay, I guess that wasn't all that intresting, but I just put the times together and at least feel it was worth mentioning.  Amazing how fast the hours in a day fly by :).

Met Heidi C this morning and we did a new little route, incorporating part of the 5 miles quare, but threw a new little road in to liven things up a bit!!!  I felt really good this morning and am looking forward to my 15 miler tomorrow and then a pretty slow week next week because Tyler will be hunting.  The marathon is getting close!! Can't wait!

Nice miles :) You are so cool! I am not sure I would be too excited about 15 miles. I get to run 6 miles :D I bet after your million mile run last week, 15 miles is seeming really short :) Next year, I'll be able to relate ;) I hope!!!

From kellies on Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 21:21:08

Thanks Marion. You will be right there with us next year, I am counting on it!! I remember people used to tell me they ran 3 miles and I was fascinated, its amazing how things can change over a few short years. Plus, all I do is run. You probably biked, did yoga, meditated, did some step aerobics, strength trained, walked, pilates, and a spin class today the rate you are going!! You amaze me with your workout regimen. Rock star!!!

This morning was a great confidence booster for me concerning the SGM.  I wanted to go out as strong as I could and try and maintain at least marathon pace, if not better for the entire run and guess what?........... I did it!!!  I did it, I did it, I did it did it (yes, I am now doing my victory dance).   I know I am probably celebrating something that I shouldn't even be celebrating, but let me share some thoughts that I had this morning during our run.  My main goal through this year of training has been to qualify for Boston at the SGM, but here is what I have come to realize.  Even if I do not qualify for Boston, I have already accomplished so much this year.  I have incorporated running into my daily life, I have met new friends (thanks to the blog) that have really set a great example to me.  I have made personal records at every distance of race I have ran this year: 5k, 10k and 1/2 marathon.  I have stayed injury free (for the most part), I have strengthened myself and maintained balance  at home and in my daily life (okay maybe not 100%).  I feel very thankful that I have been able to do all of that.  I feel very blessed to have a healthy  body and mind that allows me to have done all of that.  Life is great and so no more pressure on myself  about Boston, I am already a winner!!!

Thanks Tyler for helping me out today and for keeping my breathing and pace in check.  Thanks for being so positive this morning and sacrificing your morning to stay with me during my 8 minute pace, when I am sure you wanted to be going at your 6 1/2- 7 minute pace.  Thanks for staying just that single step ahead of me so that I had something to chase, but most of all, thanks for the little bum slap (thanks to Marion and Michelle for this too :)) that kept me in check for the last few miles of the course today.  It was a great morning.

Splits: 8:31, 8:08, 8:09, 8:05, 8:07, 8:02, 8:02, 8:09, 8:15, 8:09, 8:07, 7:59, 8:16, 8:03, 7:52.  Avg. Pace: 8:04

Kellie-- You did so stinkin' awesome!! Hope you are either passed out asleep already or still doing your victory dance!! Either way, life is good!

A couple of questions for you: do you have a running strategy for SG? How do you do your aid stations?

Seriously, nice job today. I was spent after 14 miles yesterday ... no way could I have done another mile!! You are GREAT!!!

From kellies on Sun, Sep 21, 2008 at 00:11:39

I am still up and actually driving home from Park City. Handy dandy technology that allows me to blog from right here in the passengar seat of my hubby's truck!! Thank you so much for the nice post. If it makes you feel better, I felt pretty done when I got done too. Ty said to me, could you go 11 more miles and I responded with a big fat "NO". I think a lot of running is mental. In answer to your question, I really do not have a strategy for the marathon. I am just going to listen to my body and hopefully it will talk back to me. Last year, being my first year, I walked through every water station and I felt AWESOME for almost the entire time. However, because I am going to be a little more "Pace cautious" this time, I plan on running through as many as I can, just grabbing a quick drink, and then walking through the others if I feel my body needs a little break. I am also going to go get me a pace bracelet when I get down there to show me my splits and if I have some banked time along the way (this is a big HOPE), then I may allow myself to walk through the water stations more. I am trying to decide when to eat gu, and everything else too. This is like a science and you don't want to do anything that is going to break you at any time during the coarse. I have some fasting and praying to do about this topic before I get down there :)

From Teena on Sun, Sep 21, 2008 at 00:23:32

Kelli -- you are so funny!! Here is my plan: Run the first half according to paces for a 3:39 marathon (if my body agrees). 2nd Half: assess how I feel and either pick up the pace, stay at the same pace, or slow down a bit. As far as aid stations go, I am planning on a quick walk through all of them. I have never been good at drinking and running. As for energy I am taking an accel gel at mile 7, and a gu at miles 14 and 21. Atleast that is my plan ... but in actuality it will all depend on how good I feel, weather, wind, etc.

From Kelli on Sun, Sep 21, 2008 at 22:59:56

GREAT JOB!!! You are so totally amazing, I am impressed. What pace are you aiming for? I was thinking you needed like 8:20 for a finish time of 3:40, right? So you are aiming for 3:30??? I can not do the math right now, my brain hurts.

I have yet to run any long distance that well. I am sure that indicates trouble for me, but oh well, such is life. Maybe next weekend I will try it, but I need to find a route without so many uphills.

Glad to know I am not the only one who can not drink and run at the same time, Teena!

From Kellies on Sun, Sep 21, 2008 at 23:44:09

Hey Teena, sorry that I am just getting back to you. As far as the strategy topic, I think you sound like you have a pefect strategy. So, void my previous answer and let me start over. This is my strategy:

Run the first half according to paces for a 3:39 marathon (if my body agrees).

Ha ha!! Did that sound familiar??

Kelli: Yes, I need to get 3:40 to qualify for Boston and my biggest fear is missing it by a minute or two. I am hoping that the addreneline of the race will help carry me through since we can't use ipods anymore :(. It would be very awesome if I came in with time to spare. Yes, you are right the splits average out to 8:20 per mile, and I know I can do this for 15 miles, but 26 is much much much farther. I need to quit phsyching myself out. We need this marathon here and over with!!!!!!!

From kellies on Sun, Sep 21, 2008 at 23:46:02

Oh and Kelli, I got your email forwarded to my phone but it takes me an eternity to respond from my phone so when I get into work tomorrow, I will email you back. Yes, we have much to talk about in that department.

I can not believe it is already the 22nd of September, this month has FLOWN BY!!! I think it is the anticipation of the marathon that is making it go faster :).  Today I met with "the Heidi's" for the 5 mile square.  I was a little tired this morning and could not wake up, therefore, the first couple of miles were a little hard but after that I started waking up and going, I felt really good.  I love these girls and love running with them.  I have really enjoyed this year of training with them along with so many different people.  Thank you to so many who have inspired, exemplified, pushed, pulled, encouraged and supported me this year.  I really appreciate it <sniffle, tear>.  Have a great Monday ya'll!!

Yeah, it was wierd, when I started walking I could feel it, but then it didn't hurt when I was running. My ankle was sending me a message. See, it's because I wore flats all weekend and it through my ankle into confusion. I have my heels on again today and I am good as new!!

I so disagree!! There is something about going out at night, after the kids are in bed, when you really need a break, and RUNNING! This early morning stuff is for the BIRDS!!! Are you a bird?

Way to be positive. I love your excitement. I am so pooped, could you share some with me?

Wow, if that isn't a taper week, I don't know what is ( I barely broke 20 miles).  In all honesty, Tyler has been gone hunting this week so I have been limited in how much I could run.  I was able to go a total of 3 times which is actually better than I had predicted, so I have to feel good about it.

I met with JaNae this morning; guess what time we started running......... did you guess............????  7:10am!!!!  Can you believe that?  This is officially the latest that I have started running this year (aside from races and all).  But that is the beauty about this time of year.  You can start later and still maintain cooler temperatures.  We did a new course this morning and I do not know if it would be considered the best course to run the week before the marathon, but it sure felt good to get out and challenge ourselves.  It was literally up hill until mile 3, then up and down for the next 3 and then a flat 2 miles to end.  And, I am so proud of myself for breaking the mold and stepping outside of the 5 mile square, Way to go Kellie!! (yes, i am officially trying to boost myself up here and impress you all in another way so you won't pay that much attention to my mileage this week :).

Splits: 9:26, 10:11(this mile was killer), 9:04, 9:09, 8:17, 8:44, 8:27, 8:25, 7:44.

It's hard to believe that in just one week from this time, I will hopefully be done with the marathon! I look forward to this week and to getting down to St. George.  Good luck to everyone during these last few days before the Big Day!!

You are going to be thanking those hills when you kick the trash out of the hills in SG. Can hardly believe you broke the 5 miles square again!! In fact, since I have gotten to know you every time my garmin hits 5 miles I think, "5 miles square." Love it!! My mileage wasn't much more than yours this week!! No big deal, it's taper time!! :) Nice hillwork btw!!

Good job getting out there AND running hills. I wish I could have slept in like everyone else did today! It was a nice morning, though, huh? Our 12:00 soccer game was TOO HOT for this time of year. THAT is freaking me out about next week. It should not be this hot!

Teena: Thanks for the comment and I am so honored that you think of me when you hit 5 miles, WOW! I have a new found appreciation for the 5 mile square, I love it!

Marion: I love you, you always boost me up and bring the positive side of things, thank you for being you.

Kelli: Yes, I am a little nervous about the temperatures too. My mom is in St. George this weekend and it is 99 degrees down there. I know we have talked about this before, but I do not run well in heat!! Things better change within the next few days or we are going to be hating life at about 18-20 miles (sorry Marion, bringing a little bad/negative attitude into things). Okay, let's think of it this way. If it is hot, then we will at least sweat a little more cleaning our pores and giving us beautiful, radiant skin. Then, we will look our best when we cross the finish line, YEAH!! I love the heat!!!

From kellies on Sun, Sep 28, 2008 at 01:09:07

P.S. Kim, you are smart to be listening to your body this week and taking it easy in the running department. However, I am sure you have kicked my mileage on your bike!?! You are awesome and are going to do awesome next week (in case you missed the memo, my word for the day is Awesome :)). Hope this week brings lots of good things to you.

Oh, it was hard getting out of bed this morning.  However, thoughts of the marathon and the facts of it's approaching date got me up and out.  It was a great morning and it was very nice to be out.  I met up with the Heidi's for the traditional 5 mile square.  If I haven't said it a hundred times before, I love running with the Heidi's.  We were laughing and enjoying ourselves after just a few short minutes of meeting up.  If it's not the running and the marathon that got me out of bed, it was the thoughts of running with them that got me up, so thanks Ladies!!

Oh, wow, I am officially starting with the "belly aches" that come with a race.  Usually these come the morning of a race, or the night before, but not in this case.  They started yesterday!! I was sitting in church, going through the week in my head  and it dawned on me that I am no longer counting down the marathon in weeks but in DAYS!!!  Yikes!!  My stomach is doing flip flops right now while writing this.  My thoughts, feelings, prayers, hopes, wishes, desires and emotions are with all of you this week.  Just a few more days until the BIG DAY!!  Have a great week!!

Okay, so I have determined that it is the marathon that has been making sick for like 3 weeks now. I hate that I am aiming for a particular time, it stresses me out. I wish I was just running my first marathon and shooting for under 4, no stress that way!

So, from my stomach to yours, KNOCK IT OFF!!!!

So, I have slacked major with my blogging this week. My mind is consumed with pace, eating, hydration, and splits, not to mention work has been crazy as well. All in a day! Gotta love it.

Kelli: Forgive me for adding pressure with the whole pace thing. I never intended for it to end this way :O. However, I know you are going to do awesome. I think that nerves come regardless if you are running to meet a goal or just running to finish. However, last year, I was just running to finish and the nerves started the Friday night before. Now with having a goal time, I started with the nerves on Sunday. I have lost 3 pounds in the last 3 days, I am a little worried about that. Why can't I get nervous for Christmas or Thanksgiving? Wouldn't it be nice to lose weight during those times? I just need to do some deep breathing and pray for the best. I have all of my young women praying for me. They are such fun girls. I told them to pray for me Friday night before going to bed, and then Saturday morning when they woke up. A couple of them said "I will pray for you Saturday night too because I am sure you are going to need as much help after the race as before:)", they are so fun. Then, I saw a couple this morning and they told me that they already started praying for me last night. I am really starting to feel the love and think I will add them all to my list of people to think of during the marathon.

Teena: I used to not think that "not being hungry" was an option for me but apparently it is. I never expected the nerves to come on so strong and so early, but here they are!! It's all good though, it makes me anticipate the "BIG DAY" all the more. Can't wait to meet you in person.

Marion and Kim. Thanks for the positive encouragement. Let's get the bad boy here and over shall we?!? It is a very bitter sweet time right now :).

You did not add the pressure---I DID!!!

I wish I could get nervous and not want to eat. I always want to eat. I have had to work hard this week on eating NO JUNK and it is killing me!!! But, i am surviving.

You will do great. I know it. Especially with that clan of YW behind you. I guess I better talk to all of my YW tonight and get them on board!

Have a marvelous day!

Went 4 quick miles with JaNae tonight.  Actually it felt more like 10 miles.  I had eaten a later dinner and so my stomach was not in the right place so it was a little harder to run.  We didn't start running until 10:15pm so it was a late night, but always nice to get out and have a little conversation time with my "friend".

Had a great morning out with "the Heidi's" this morning for my last official run before the marathon.  Isn't that weird?  Tyler volunteered 'again" to take the early shift (yes, I know he is good to me) so he woke up and went out at about 5:30 so that I could go at 6:30.  However, after he left, I laid in bed wide awake with thoughts of the marathon.  My nerves are really starting to settle in.  Not a good time for this beings that this should be the time that I am eating good and hydrating myself and instead I find myself not eating (due to loss of appetite) and feeling dehydrated.  I think it may be the FIRST TIME IN HISTORY that I may have to force myself to eat, what would be the odds??   I was just asking Kelli (fellow FRB'er) why couldn't this happen during Thanksgiving or Christmas??  Wouldn't that be nice??  In any event, it is an exciting time that only comes around a few times in a lifetime, so I really need to start enjoying it!!

Motto/thought for the day: Just enjoy this time because it only comes around a few times in a lifetime.

We leave tomorrow to head down to St. George, eeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkk!!!! (Yes, I am screaming out loud as I type this :)).

Didn't even check my average pace today but I felt strong and we did a lot of hills too, so it was great!!!  Thanks Heidi and Heidi for helping me out so much over these past few months. I have truly enjoyed getting to know you both better and seeing your improvements with running. I look forward to several more years of running with each other.   I hope everyone has a great day and I look forward to seeing you all down in St. George.  Here we come !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Kelli, it was good meeting you and your husband at the party last night. We need to try and do these get togethers more often. Wasnt Sashas drunken dance the best!? My daughters were blown away at him when he put avocado and chunks of garlic on whole wheat bread. I looked at my 6 year old daughter and she was grabbing misty's hair and said I need to smell your hair, that guys sandwich stinks. lol

Wow, it is a great feeling to be writing this post and to know that the much anticipated St. George Marathon 2008 is over and that my goal has been accomplished!!  Really, words can not express the time, thoughts, emotions and feelings that go along with a marathon.  It is a very motivating, exciting, enduring and humbling experience.  I am so thankful and feel so blessed that my body allowed me to do this today. .   Okay, sorry, past the emotion part, now I can move on to the details.

So, I didn't sleep much last night.  Got to bed at about 11:00 knowing I had to wake up at 4:00am.  I laid in bed for about 30 minutes until I actually fell asleep, woke up to go the bathroom once, then woke up "wide eyed" at 2:00 sure I had missed the alarm.  Then, couldn't get back to sleep but eventually feel alseep about 20 minutes later, then was up again around 3:00ish, and up for good just before 4:00am.  I think I dreamed way to much about several different areas around the marathon.  Needless to say, we were up on time, made it to the bus by the time we wanted and was feeling great about the day until................ we stepped off of the bus to an ever present rain and wind!!!  Not a good thing.  Especially considering that right before we got off the bus, Tyler said to me "if the weather is bad today, you know you have to have a whole new plan?".  I sat silent for a moment before saying "okay, talk to me".  I have gone over this marathon at least 50 times during the preperation and planning of this and now I was told that I had to have an entirely different plan?  No, he gave me a few words of advice that made me feel better, then we ran into Michelle who added her words of wisdom and then the realization came that like or not, the weather was what is was, so I may as well make the best of it.  My original goal was just to qualify for Boston at 3:40:59, but then decide that I would really like to do it in about 3:35:00.  So, I found my place in the line-up right between the 3:30 and 3:40 pacer.  I started running and felt awesome.  I hit the half way point and felt awesome (aside from the required assistance to get my soaking wet t-shirt off from a volunteer working the booth, that was a little embarrassing).  Hit 17 and realized I was down to single digits in miles and felt even more awesome.  My good friend Heidi W actually drove down last night and met me at 23 to run the last few miles with me.  She was a great help and really got me through those last miles (Thank you SO MUCH Heidi!!).  I actually felt really good until 25 at which point, I had to really talk myself through the last few block and tell myself that "No, the muscles in your legs will not tighten to the point of breaking your bones, even though they feel that way".  I saw my mom, sister, mother in law and son at the corner of 300 south and Main street which of coarse brought out the emotions in me (I know, surprising!!), but it also inspired me to push myself as hard as possible those last few blocks to the finish line.  I was amazed when I crossed the finish line, stopped my watch and noticed my time was 3:30:25.  I improved my one and only marathon time from last year by 28 minutes.  I felt awesome (yes, I know I have said Awesome like a hundred times this post :), proud and relieved to have it over.  Tyler came and found me, thank goodness he had a blanket he shared with me and then the fun began, eating ice cream, bread, cookies, juice, etc.   This is really a very fun thing to be able to accomplish and experience with Tyler.  When I crossed that finish line, I enjoyed it so much more knowing that he was there and that he understood exactly how I felt.  Thank you Tyler!!  Okay, the emotions are starting again, better end the post!!!

Splits:  8:38, 8:19, 7:51, 7:34, 7:48, 7:35, 7:40, 8:59 (veyo, ouch), 8:42, 8:32, 8:48, 8:25, 8:01, 8:25, 7:38, 7:31, 7:39, 7:49, 8:46, 7:54, 7:23, 7:59, 7:33, 7:27, 7:42, 7:46, 7:52.

Lots of water and rest! Good Job and Good Night to all who ran today.  I hope that you all recover well.

Burt: So, you are saying that I can't run a marathon in 1:30?? Come on? Ha Ha, thanks for catching that for me!

Marcie: Thank you for the nice comment, I look forward to formally meeting you down the road.

Teena: We had a fun time out shopping but about half way through target, my legs started tightening up and so we went home so that I could rest and let them rest. We did have fun though. I got a new shirt at Target, got my son a Halloween costume and went to that "Living Ecclection" store off of the side of the freeway and got me a little decoration for my bedroom so that was fun. I love the exclamation points, they radiate energy. Thanks for the fun post. How are you feeling today?

Tom and Kim: You guys are a darling couple and I am so glad that Tyler and I have gotten to know you better. You are both great examples to so many others around you. I look forward to several more years of running together along with additional memories. You are welcome to the house in St. George anytime, really, I hope you know we mean that!! As far as the pictures go, I am not so confident in their outcome. I hadn't taken my makeup off from the night before so I am sure that, due the the small amount of rain received :), there was mascara running down my face for a large portion of the course, wouldn't that be pretty!! Keep up all of the good work you guys, all of the positive energy and all of the fun blogging :)

Thanks for letting me hang out with your family so I didn't feel like a dork eating my burger and fries alone :) Your family is so kind, and I appreciate your friendship. See you on the road!

Sorry that I didn't make it back to run you in this year, I was so cold that I didn't dare leave. Just think, you are no longer a "jogger". Josse: Thank you! You are a huge inspiration to me. I am going to keep running and hope to improve each year. Maybe one day, just maybe.... I may make it in closer to 3 hours, it's hard for me to even imagine right now though! But anything is possible :)

Cheryl: It was so nice meeting you too and way to go with the marathon! I hope to see you around at other events for many years to come.

Tyler: Eg elska thig, sumalatheous (sp??)

Michelle: IT was so nice meeting you as well Friday night. I am really glad that they had that little gathering. It was so nice meeting so many people. Isn't it a great feeling qualifying for Boston? Are you going to plan on going? I think we need to make a FRB trip out of it since so many of us qualified for the first time? That would be too much fun!!!

Peggy: Thank you! I am still amazed at your time and read the article in the paper with your comments, impressive! You are amazing. Way to go on Saturday!

I looked and looked and looked. But HOLY FLIPPIN'COW!!!! Look at those amazing splits and your finish time!!! Can I add any more exclamation points?!?! That is one heck of an amazing race little girl!

I was cursing myself for not bringing your phone number with me to St George. What was I thinking??

Anyway, great job. I am so happy for you (and extremely jealous---31 in your age group? WOW!) I am now part of your fan club!

Kelli, you are so much fun!! It is an honor that you would cry when reading my blog. I cried a lot on marathon day and have since cried a few times too. There is just something about them that brings me to emotions. I think that the relationships that I have established this year have made it all the better. I love the opportunity to talk to so many fellow runners and bloggers who have come so far and accomplished so much. I have loved getting to know you better and talking on the blog(s). You are an awesome friend and I look forward to a long history of running together, even if it's not hand in hand, so to speak! I am going to go read your race report now! Thanks again Kelli :)

This BLOG is cool, though, I have to admit! I like it MUCH!

From Lucia on Mon, Oct 06, 2008 at 17:07:00

Congratulations Kelli!!! Here's something to get you thinking about Boston - the play-by-play recount of a super fast runner who ran it this year with Kristin Armstrong (Lance's ex) and others. The slowest time ever for them, yet they had a blast! So, I'm with you that once you qualify, the actual race should be more about fun than about hitting a PR. http://runtrails.blogspot.com/2008/04/bleeker-does-boston-marathon.html

With some luck and good training, hopefully I'll see you there too!

Hey, Im glad you guys did so good down there. I was reading your comment to Teena on running boston for fun. Yes definitely yes run it for fun. It is a challenging course with lots of rolling hills. They eat your legs for breakfast. I had more fun running it for fun the year before I ran it for speed. I am going to sign up for it also so it will be a blogger party there! I have friends that I always stay with in Stoneham which is only 8 miles north of Boston. Ill watch for you and Tylers comments and try to do a get together there!

Good thing:  My sister was down in my area with some friends last night so I decided to go and see her and say hello to some of her friends that I have not seen since High School.  It was so much fun catching up with them and hearing about their lives.  My sister always had great friends through school and it was really fun to see them all. Bad thing: Because I was so interested in the conversation with the long lost friends and enjoyed seeing my sister who I don't get to see too often, I could not bring myself to leave the event and therefore, did not get home until after 2:00am this morning leaving me with very little sleep for this mornings run, more importantly the first attempt at running since the Marathon last week.  However, I actually got up quit easily and met up with the Heidi's and JaNae for 6.5 slow miles to help me break back into things.  It was very cold this morning and made me realize just how fast this year has flown right by.  JaNae made mention of a prior run when we were all saying "Can you believe that we have shorts on", it seems like it was yesterday and it has been almost 6 months ago, how time flies.   It was great to get out and run this morning.

I know, I know. I have slacked major on this blog and on my personal blog. I am crazy at work and not in a good profitable way. I just have had some files that are taking much longer than they should and requiring much more energy then they should. Needless to say, I have been working late and neglecting my blogging obligations, he he!! Sorry Kelli, however, I am so honored to see that you noticed!! I feel like it's been a year since I have talked to you. I have missed our talks. How are ya??

I was wondering how the mortgage business was going right now. I have two friends who work for Wells Fargo and one is doing okay but the other one is really struggling. She is like 2 months behind on her monthly draws and she keeps having files fall through over and over---all of that work for nothing!

I am glad to know you are well and I hope life slows down some and that your files CLOSE!

I am good. I am having knee issues all of the sudden and i am a little concerned! It hurts to touch today. Scott says that is a good sign becasue it means it will go away. We will see!

Talk to you soon---we still need to have some Boston chats when you are ready! I swear to you I am going to have a FRB party at my house!!!

From kellies on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 17:20:39

Okay, also, I have to apologize to Teena, I never got back to you either, geeezzz!!! I am sorry; my mind isn't in the game. In answer to your question, I can't believe how time has flown since the big day, it seems like it was yesterday. It was 2 weeks ago today that we were leaving to go to St. George, already? WOW, TIME FLIES!! I was talking to Tyler (Coach Tyler) about what to do to prepare for Boston and he advised to run through the winter, just short miles (3-10) then start hitting high miles again first of February. So, I will most likely just do maybe 2 15 milers, then maybe 2 20 milers then taper for Boston. What are your thoughts?

Kelli: You need to take care of that knee and listen to your body. It scares me that you say "it hurts to touch", OUCH!! Load up on meds and ice like crazy, we can not have that Boston, it is unacceptable. I am going to send your some positive karma over the blog to help heal you, :D. I think a FRB party is an awesome idea!! I would have one too if you want to drive all the way down to my neck of the woods!! We should really find out who is all going to Boston and do that though, that would be so fun!! I need to start researching options for Boston (flights, hotels, etc). I will add that to my duties for the next week. I have to admit that I feel VERY blessed when it comes to my job. I work for a very small office (mom and pap shop) so we work off of referrals mainly. I have been so lucky and actually stayed pretty busy. Yes, I have had several files crash and burn at the 11th hour, but I actually had my very best month to date in July of this year while other companies were going out of business so I consider myself, SO LUCKY!! I am just crossing my fingers and hoping that my luck prevails and carries me through these tough times! Good luck to your friends, I hope that things start looking up for them! Okay, now it is off to get the kids for karate. Have a great day, it's SO NICE talking to you!!

From Kelli on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 17:23:53

From kellies on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 17:29:17

HA HA HA, I am laughing out loud. Okay, lets do this..... lets meet up for a date night and then plan the FRB party at that time to be held prior to Boston, that work?? You crack me up!! Oh, how I have missed you these last few and ever so long days :)

From Kelli on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 17:35:08

Ah, I missed you, too! I have reinvented my FRB---thoughts and recipes even!!! I have been so bored I did not know what to do without you!

Name the day and the time and we can meet half way in between. I will be there. Do I sound like a scary stalker?? Teena and I were discussing how when someone moves into your neighborhood you kind of scope them out to see whether or not you might be friends. I was telling Scott becasue SO do that!! He thinks I am nuts and that I will never find a place to live that is perfect. I told him I just need Kellie and Teena to move in! There are LOTS of houses for sale (and lots of short sales). Come move in! Then I will have friends and running partners.

Wow, I am really milking up this marathon recovery for all it's worth aren't I?  I am ashamed to admit that I have only ran twice since the marathon one of which, was this morning. You would think (or I guess hope) that I could follow this comment up with something like "But it is okay because I have really been watching what I eat to keep my calories down and make up for not exercising" but NOPE, can't say that either!!  What is wrong with me?  I bet Sasha is crawling in his skin if reading this post right now :) (forgive me Sasha).

I attempted to get up Monday and just couldn't bring myself to it, then attempted again last night to get out but got busy working on my bedroom renovation and didn't get out.  Now, it is my kid's Fall Break from school tomorrow and Friday and so I am doubting that I will want to get out of bed early for the next 2 days, so it looks like I better just take the rest of this week off and start fresh next week, sound like a plan?  Hang in there with me fellow bloggers, I will get "back in the saddle" here soon!!

Okay, onto the good stuff.  I met up with Heidi W this morning for the 5 mile square.  I have to admit that when I ran on Saturday it was a little painful and...........it was painful again this morning but Not like it was on Saturday!  Just a few twitches here and there while running my hips are still not recovered, but enough belly-aching, It was just SO NICE to get out and as always to visit with Heidi, she is such a sweetie!  I followed it up with some lunges and sit-ups when I got home.  Great Morning!!

Your forgiven. I think everyone needs a dang break from putting up with a rough marathon like that! Good job to both of you guys.

From kellies on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 00:52:34

Awe, thanks Walter. You made me feel much better!! Hope you are all recovered from the marathon, I still can't get over your time, speedster!

From walter on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 00:58:41

I watched the video that Steve Hooper made on the blog and it still baffles me that I look so slow! The video does us no justice! He should be making wind noises instead of music in the background! lol I was upset at not breaking into the 2:30's. Oh well you cant have everything you want right? Where would you put it?

From kellies on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 01:40:25

Are you kidding? You just put "yourself" and "slow" into the same sentence? Not possible. No, I know what you are talking about. I always feel like I am running fast and I see video footage and want to bust out laughing at myself. Guess you are right about not getting everything we want, Dang it!!!

From walter on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 07:38:52

Wow you got me on the negativism about telling myself im slow huh? So what did you and Tyler think about the race? I wasn't dissapointed because I came down 21 spots overall from last year. If I do that next year I should win it huh? lol See how I think. Its easy

I heard that saying of wanting everything from Steven Wright the comedian. He's one of my favorite. Very Funny.

So have you signed up for boston yet? We will have a great blog showing this year! It will be a Par-Tay!

From Lybi on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 09:21:28

You absolutely can't judge your speed by looking at footage of yourself running! I noticed that the guy who was winning the St. George Marathon this year seriously just looked like he was jogging. SERIOUSLY! If I was just passing by, and did not know that he was WINNING the marathon, I would have guessed his pace was a bout 8:30.

You guys are both awesome, and Kellie, don't feel bad for taking off a couple of weeks. I've seen really really fast collegiate runners take 2 weeks off after a big race as part of their training cycles. (Just don't get too comfy on the couch!) Great job getting out today.

From walter on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 09:37:39

Lybi, I told my wife that too! about the fastest runner looking like he was doing a saturday long run. Not racing! He made us all looked schooled though! Im just glad I didnt puke this year especially in front of a cam corder. lol

Great run Kellie! Way to get back on the wagon :)

From Kim on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 15:04:19

Hey Kellie,

I was already using the "fall break" and "bedroom renovation" excuses. In fact, I'm waiting for Hank's Furniture to bring the bedroom furniture as I type! When that's done I'm just going to have to stick to my injured foot and IT band excuses for a while more. Actually I would LOVE to get out and try a run but I really feel it's best to let these heal a bit more before venturing out very gently!

Anyway, It's good to check up on you. Keep up the good work and the great attitude! You are one of those people that is just fun to be around...even in cyberspace! :o)

From Kelli on Sat, Oct 18, 2008 at 22:19:40

Hey, you ran!! That is great and it does not matter when or how much or how often! We just ran in a marathon, we deserve a break!

Hope the bedroom is coming along, I can not wait to see pictures. You are quite talented!

From kellies on Mon, Oct 20, 2008 at 14:18:44

Hey Kel,

Thanks for the nice message, you are always so positive. So, confession, aside from the time consumption of my little home renovation, I have to admit that I did not do the painting myself, so I am really not that talented. Honestly, I intended to paint myself, but after 6 months passed, I realized that it was merely a nice thought and not reality. We also wanted to re-texture my bedroom (Tyler actually requested that one) so when it was brought up, it was time to hire a professional. To my luck, my Step brother owns his own painting company and did the texturing as well. He is very talented and does a great job (little advertisements for him right here). The bedroom is almost done, I actually have everything done except for the finishing touches (curtains, shelves, etc),so I am waiting for it to be 100% done before I make the big "Reveal". Stay tuned, it should be exciting (how dissapointed you are going to be if you hate it). Just a quick chat, hope you are having a great day!!

Wow, so it's Monday and I am just now posting my Saturday run.  Maybe it is because I was trying to put it as far out of my mind as possible?  Someone please tell me that my struggles with running lately are due to the "Marathon Recovery".  I do not mean to sound so negative and pathetic, but I am just really struggling lately.  It may also have to do with my choice of route on Saturday but still, I just couldn't seem to get it together.  So again, is this just because my body is still in recovery?

In any event, Tyler was out of town so I got a sitter and went out on my own for what was supposed to be just a quick 10k.  In all actuality I make it sound far worse then it was, although the first 3 1/2 miles were purely painful, I seemed to pick it up at the end and when all was said and done averaged a 8:41 pace (taking into consideration the 10:16 pace up hill and the 7:45 pace down hill :)).  It was very good to get out and enjoy this AMAZING weather that we are having.  And, it just felt nice to know that I had actually ran at all.  I am looking forward to this week to get some more days in and to hopefully, help regulate my body and regain my past running abilities, he he!!  I hope that you all have a great Monday!!

Late posting but Hey, I got out so I HAVE TO POST IT!  I met up with Heidi W for a quick mile before then meeting up with Heidi C to join us for the last 3.5.  Heidi was nice to meet me early because Tyler had to get to work and so I had a curfew.  So, after I finished up, the Heidis kept on going.  It was a great morning, cold, but great!  And above all else, SO NICE TO RUN.  It was actually the first time that I felt really good running since the marathon, so we are making improvements.  Great way to start a day.

Yea, a run I am excited to post.  So, I met up with Michelle this morning for the first time to run (exclusive I mean).  I  just had an hour and she wanted to go 10 miles, so she agreed to run with me while I could go and then finish up solo after I had to head home.  We started on the 5 mile square route and then added on some additional mileage at the end.  I have come to love this little route but more than anything really enjoyed running with Michelle.  I have to admit that I was a little nervous and even had a hard time sleeping in anticipation for this morning.  When I left I said to Tyler "Wish me luck, I will need it", he replied with "you will do great, just let her set the pace and go with it".  This is the wonderful thing about Michelle, she never once even mentioned the pace or that it was slow, fast, etc.  She just rolled along without even looking at our pace, THANK YOU MICHELLE!  I probably talked her ear off but it was great to get to know her better and to learn from her amazing abilities with running.  When we hit about 6 miles, we ran into McKenzie and so she ran the my last little leg with me before I had to head for home, and they kept going.  That was the first time I have run with McKenzie as well so all in all, it was a great morning with a little change that I really enjoyed!  Thanks again Michelle for working that out with me and allowing me to run with you, I would love any opportunity to run with you again so keep me posted on your weekly schedule.  The best part about this morning is that I FELT GREAT!!  I have struggled since the marathon to get my body to move and to feel good while running, but today, I felt great and regained some of my confidence.  My brother just flew in from GA for the weekend so we are heading back down to St. George tonight for a little family weekend.  My brother and I are going to do a long run on Saturday on the marathon course that I am really looking forward to, more so after today.  Hope you all have a great Thursday!

KellieS- geez your post made me blush. It was great to run together, eh, and you must have been pushing that pace because my overall pace was slower than the portion with you. I could tell you felt good because you were conversational at a good clip.

I'll keep those emails coming your way.

I'd be interested to be a fly on the wall at the Shepard house, because I've had my ear chewed off by Tyler, and Kellie can string together a few sentences herself, so which one of them dominates the conversation at home? Hmmm. . .

Kelli-I've got no wisdom, just questions. I was asking Kellie how she managed her schedule. I am getting worn thin.

Marion - You're the best. Feel some love coming acha from cyberspace.

So, we came down to St. George with intents to rest today and run a 15 miler tomorrow.  However, we got down here and decided to run Friday instead so that I could let me poor, under privelaged husband (who has been hunting for the last 5 days and unable to run) run on Saturday instead :).  No really, my brother is in town and I know that he and Ty are about the same pace so it made more sense to allow them to run together for the long run.  So, me and Mikey ran out from the house, found a little trail to run on for a bit and then came back. I had to get back to the kids from my mom and so Mikey kept going an additional 4 miles (getting him up to 10).  I felt really good and pretty much decided that if I could run in St. George every day at these temperatures for the rest of my life, I would be totally fine with that.

Splits: 7:52 (went out a little too fast),  8:35, 8:21, 8:17, 7:56, 8:02.

What a great thing to be able to do with my brother.  It was a lot of fun!

Kellie ... what an awesome run. That St. George weather is perfect in late fall/early winter. Any chance you are running Snow Canyon on November 8th?

Hope all is going well. Still want you to move to West Jordan!!

From walter on Mon, Oct 27, 2008 at 09:42:58

These are the times that make me so jealous of St. George! Its fun to run in places like that when we are experiencing snow and our dreaded weather. So your parents live down there huh?

From kellies on Mon, Oct 27, 2008 at 10:53:59

Hey Teena,

I am still not sure about the Snow Canyon half but may be doing it. There is a 5K out in Saratoga Springs that same day to receive funds for a little boy (related to my neighbor) who is fighting cancer. So, I am trying to pursuade my kids into running with me to help with any way that I can make, so this would take me out of the snow canyon half. We will see what happens. I know, I have days when I think moving sounds fun but then others when I look around at my surroundings and can not imagine living anywhere else. Why don't you and Kelli come down to my neck of the woods, I have 2 houses for sale right on my street, one for each of you!! We need to go to dinner one of these nights to that I can meet you in person. I have been talking to Kelli about this, we just need to set a date :)

Walter: My hubby and I actually went in with 2 other families and bought a home in St. George earlier this year so we have been trying to use it as much as possible :). We love St. Goerge so much and were going down so often that we felt it was a good time to invest down there given the market and all. It's a fun little house and we have had many good times there already :). So wait, are you in Boston right now then?

From britta on Mon, Oct 27, 2008 at 13:02:21

Teena: We could do a gals night too but we also wanted to do a date night with our hubby's. We could meet anywhere, I am always up for coming up to your neck of the woods so you guys just say the time and place and we will be there!!

From Kelli on Mon, Oct 27, 2008 at 17:45:22

Oh yeah, I forgot about that! I still have your e-mail waiting for the reply! I think we should do a date, anytime after this weekend (Halloween gets in the way!) We are up for any weekend after that, and all of the kids could even come and play at my house (if sitters are an issue). My daughter is an awesome babysitter!

From Kelli on Mon, Oct 27, 2008 at 17:46:19

Oh, and great run, BTW. Why are you so darn fast? I seriously never run that face. I guess I need to pick up the pace or I will never again be able to beat you. That was obviously a FLUKE! Oh, wait, I had a pacer, so it was a fluke!

From Kelli on Wed, Oct 29, 2008 at 12:30:28

HEY---come and run with us this Saturday at Tnaksgiving point!!!!

From kellies on Wed, Oct 29, 2008 at 12:44:15

Oh Kelli, just seeing your name come across my email is exactly what I needed today! First of all, I am not speedy, just happened to get some good miles/split(s) in there from time to time (especially when I happen to run with speedy people like my brother. And your winning me in Payson was totally justified, I was trying like heck to keep up with you and kept getting further and further behind, you kicked my butt and deserved every bit of it!!

What time are you running on Saturday? Tyler is going out at 5:30 and then we have a baptism, so unlikely, but let me know what time you are planning on. Is there a race??

From kellies on Wed, Oct 29, 2008 at 12:46:27

Oh and back to that date night, lets first just plan a date and then we will decide the place. We love coming up to SLC and are happy to do it beings it is far more accomodating to both of you!! What about next weekend? or the next?? I will be gone November 14th, but should be here before and after~

From Kelli on Wed, Oct 29, 2008 at 13:08:54

I am so happy that I made your day!!

It is not a race, just a bunch of us meeting (Marion, Britta, Jon, Leslie, Maurine, Smooth, and I do not know who else). We are meeting at 7 for 10 miles.

We could go next Saturday (Teena will be in St George doing the half, though). We are pretty much free the entire month---we have nothing on our calendar yet (such a nice change from soccer and football season!) So, pick a day, any day, and I will write it on the calendar and it will be good!

HOW ARE YA DOING???

From kellies on Wed, Oct 29, 2008 at 13:24:18

Oh man, that really sounds like alot of fun. I will talk to Tyler and see if he is willing to chance things up on the schedule and let you know, it sounds like a blast. Plus, Marion mentioned muffins, hot chocolate and chocolate donuts so now I am really going to fight for it! LOL.

I forgot about the half falling on that weekend and Tyler may be gone doing that too so maybe we should just shoot for Nov 22nd, then we should all be in town right? Let me know if that works!

I am doing pretty good, just rollin a long. I am still trying to make sense of why and how life got so busy, but it just seems to keep going that way! The economy, etc is really weighing on my mind right now (just as a side note). My brother just left this morning so we have been spending a lot of time with him, which has been great! Other than that, nothing new, how are you doing? (forgive me for typos, I am not checking them).

From Kelli on Wed, Oct 29, 2008 at 13:29:45

The economy is weighing on my mind as well, so much that I am really thinking hard about Boston! I know that it is not going to be a depression, but WHAT IF?? It is freaking me out. Plus, the presidential hopefuls seem to have no clue how to do anything more than get us into more debt, and that is scary. I am with you on that!

Life is BUSY, that is for sure.

I will write down the 22nd---in pencil in case we need to change it. I will talk to Teena and Britta, too, at our run tomorrow.

From Kelli on Wed, Oct 29, 2008 at 13:30:13

Oh, and TRY to come. It will be fun, easy, and SLOW.

From britta on Wed, Oct 29, 2008 at 13:36:12

I just saw my name on Kelli's response. Does that mean I get to come to the date night?!!! Oh Please? I didn't want to invite myself but who are we kinding I am not shy!!!!!

I am not staying very up to date on everyone's blog's. Sorry!

From kellies on Wed, Oct 29, 2008 at 13:37:05

Yeah, what is it right now? I have this constant pit in my stomach that something major is going to happen and soon. I am stressed to get my food storage, stressed to be financially ready and all the while trying to maintain security, peace and balance at home, it is a lot to think about. The Depression has weighed a lot on my mind and I am unsure on what to do about a lot of things (Christmas, family vacations, Boston, new furniture (:)), etc. I shouldn't dwell so much on it, but I am very nervous, it is very scary!

Okay, on to a happier exciting note, let's plan on the 22nd for now, that sounds so fun! Also, if I am unable to make is Saturday, can we do it again? Pretty please??? Pretty please with a cherry on top??

From kellies on Wed, Oct 29, 2008 at 13:39:53

Ha Ha, Britta! I love you already! Heck yeah, you are invited, the more the merrier! I just want to sit down and get to know so many of you better. Not while we are running, not while we are racing, but when we are sitting and eating!!

From Kelli on Wed, Oct 29, 2008 at 13:43:49

YES!!! We will do it again. I have heard it is a great course, and you can even run farther than 10, so we could do that or more on another Saturday. Soccer is over for now, but Basketball starts soon and indoor soccer! So, let's fit in 1 (or a few) more before life goes nuts again! I would LOVE to meet you any Saturday to run, and we can even push it a little later for warmth and sunlight. I need to see how the fast people do it! (Just giving you a hard time---but you are FAST.)

Okay, now Britta knows---so write it on your calendar. Now I just need to check with Teena.

Is Tyler running the 1/2 next weekend? There is a group of women going from my running group, but Scott can not go. i am debating...You wanna go Britta and Kellie???

From britta on Wed, Oct 29, 2008 at 13:47:49

From Teena on Wed, Oct 29, 2008 at 14:02:38

From kellies on Wed, Oct 29, 2008 at 14:05:10

Hey Teena!! Yes, we are talking about the 22nd of November. Next weekend is the 8th and you will be gone to St. George, then I will be gone to St. George the following weekend (with some girl friends) so we decided on the 22nd. Yea!! I am glad to hear that it works for you too, I am looking forward to it. Only 24 days away, I am going to go home tonight and make a paper chain to help me count down the days :), LOL~

From Kelli on Sun, Nov 02, 2008 at 15:42:38

The 22nd is the BYU/Utah game. I think it is in the afternoon, and we do not care at our house, but I wanted to double check with you gals.

From kellies on Mon, Nov 03, 2008 at 13:18:47

Hello again! Okay I actually tried to comment on this as well over the weekend from my cell phone but it does not work. So, turns out that we have a family party that same night too for my hubby's grandma's 80th b-day party. We have not confirmed what time it's at, so we were not sure if we would be able to make this date either! Assuming it is a family luncheon over a dinner, we could still most likely make our dinner date, but now with the game what do you think we should? I would be fine to still meet but it is the men that I fear, unless we want to plan on meeting at Iggy's Sports Bar in SLC, what do you say to that?? Lol!

From Kelli on Mon, Nov 03, 2008 at 14:37:34

I am still good with whatever---we do not care much about the game, and it starts at noon so it will be over by then. So, find out about your family party and let us know so we can pick a new date if we need to.

Great run Kellie! Can you make it to the run on Saturday at Thanksgiving point? My blog has the details. It's gonna have muffins and hot chocolate!1 YUMM!!! Maybe chocolate donuts???

From kellies on Wed, Oct 29, 2008 at 13:18:18

You had me at muffins and hot chocolate but now I am sitting at work drooling over the words "chocolate donuts", what is a gal to do? I am unsure about Saturday because my hubby is going out at 5:30 and then we have a baptism at 10:00 so it seems unlikely unless it happens to be a mid afternoon situation? Man, that would be so fun! Maybe I can pursuade my hubby to let me re-arrange the schedule??

From Tom on Wed, Oct 29, 2008 at 13:19:26

Hey what happened to Tyler's blog? It seems to have disappeared.

From kellies on Wed, Oct 29, 2008 at 13:31:09

Well it could be a combination of several things really: He hasn't been running as much, it is hunting season, he has been consumed with work, and I think this blogging is wonderful, stupendous, tremendous, glorious, informative, and great to meet people but very time consuming too. :) So, I will tell him you were checking in on him and see if it sparks any desires to get his bum in gear!

From Tom on Wed, Oct 29, 2008 at 13:43:54

Looks like he took his blog completely offline so it doesn't even exist anymore. Maybe he doesn't want everyone to know his top-secret strategies for getting faster.

BTW looking at your paces lately it looks like he must have already shared his speedy formula with you (or maybe you shared it with him! :)) Good job!

From kellies on Wed, Oct 29, 2008 at 13:51:36

Wow, I didn't even know that! I will have to ask him what happened! I know he just posted last Saturday's run so it seems weird! MYSTERY!

Thanks Tom, I am trying to improve but it's a little painful sometimes. Hopefully soon enough it will just become natural and I can start spitting out sub 7 paces like the rest of you speedsters!! Ha ha, don't think that will ever happen, but it's fun to dream!

Met with Michelle and Ali this morning in SF for a morning run.  I assumed it was going to be cold especially factoring in the wind on the SF bench, so I layered up fully equip with gloves and a beanie. However after about a whole 4 minutes of running realized that we are still having 70 degree mid day temperatures resulting in warmer mornings and unnecessary layering (hence the reason Michelle was in shorts) gees Kellie, where were you on that one?  Kind of Funny!!  It was so much fun running with these girls though and we had some very fun and interesting conversations to help the time just roll on by.  I wondered why I was huffing and puffing the whole time (I didn't look at my watch one time to check pace) but later found out when I looked at our splits:

7:58, 7:46, 7:49, 8:20 (little slower while Michelle made a potty break, I can't remember the abbreviated term for this), 8:57 (huge, monstrous, enormous hill at the end, at least it felt that way), 8:03 to end it off!

Michelle and Ali didn't seem to be phased much by the pace, they are my idols!  What a great way to start a day.  I need to run with these speedsters more often to keep pushing myself and improving my pace, etc.  Thanks gals!  Now, back to work :)

I didn't look at my watch at all during the run, but you didn't seem to be winded to me, or I would have eased up. I guess that means sub-8:00's just fine for you :) Wha-ha-ha! (evil laugh)

Great spilts!! I am so jealous you live close enough to Michelle to run with her. She is my idol too!!!

Hi, Kellie! Thanks for your advice! I have been a runner forever...just a cruiser though. So, I'm totally psyched about getting faster and trying to qualify for Boston. I noticed that you qualified this year...GOOD JOB!! SO inspiring! I can't even wait to pick up the pace. Noticed that you record your mile times...how do you keep track and remember all that?

From kellies on Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 12:08:47

Hey Court,

I just have one of those Garmin watches that tracks your mileage and pace, etc. They are very handy and now that I am used to running with one, I can't run without it. However, I have to turn it over to my husband for all of the programming because I am challenged in that department :). In any event, they are very nice to have!! Keep up the good work~

Dang, I actually tried to comment on Saturday night from my cell phone but it looks like it didn't work. So, sorry about the delay in getting back to you. This is funny!! I got on and read the post and have to automatically assume that you are the CUTIE PIE he is referencing to because Me, running in the rain, huffing and puffing in attempts to keep up with the bodacious babeliscious, boston bound beauty from Riverton is about the furthest thing from Cute!! I can just picture what my face ,ust have looked like around the end of that race, ha ha, it makes me laugh out loud! Thanks for the fun read!!

Late post.

Met up with the Heidi's for what I was hoping for a 7 mile run. However, it was Halloween and I think all of our minds were in different places so we had a hard time going.  But, we ended up making it to 6.5 and so it felt good to know that I had burned some calories to consume three times as much with Halloween Candy.  I actually ended up walking out almost the last 3/4 of a mile because my back was hurting me really bad. Then I got home late and made my hubby late for work, not a good run or a good morning :(.  Looking forward to next week.

Met up with the Heidi's this morning for the 5 mile square.  JaNae ended up meeting up with us too a little after mile 1 so it was fun to have a bunch of us out this morning.  After the weekend that I had, and the menu that came with it (Halloween, Date night, plus Sunday dinner) I should have ran 20 miles, but there isn't enough time for that on week mornings so I am just going to have to settle with 5 for today.  I felt really good this morning though and I love the weather.  There were leaves all over the ground and a chill in the air, so another beautiful fall morning.  Finished it up with a few lunges and stretches when I got home.  What a great way to start a new week and a new month.

Ever so positive. What a lovely report and day for you!! It is substantially colder right now, how do you feel about that???

Still on for Saturday???

From kellies on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 17:04:10

Yep, I was going to email tomorrow. We will meet you at 7:30 and plan on going how many miles? I was thinking 10-15 but let me know what your thoughts are since you are familiar with the trail, etc. I am looking forward to it!

From Kelli on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 17:07:18

We have a few people joining us (Leslie and Tarzan are the sweepers at about a 12 minute pace and they are going 15, Jon may come, and Britta is coming and maybe her husband). We can do 10 or 15! From the parking lot to the base and back is 10. Then we could head towards Utah lake for however far we want and then turn around and come back. Whatever. I am up for 15 as long as it is comfortably paced. I have gotten so used to running SLOW on the treadmill!!!

What do you think?

From kellies on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 17:10:49

Sounds good to me. Again, being unfamiliar with the course, I am unsure what to expect which may be better in the long run (no pun intended). I think we plan on going to the base and back and if we feel like adding on, we go ahead for 15. Does that even sound right? Bases on the course?

From Kelli on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 17:14:03

No, the base. What the heck is it called???

CAMP WILLIAMS.

From kellies on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 17:18:28

oops, based on the course, I mean.

From Kelli on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 17:19:59

Oh, I see. Yes, 10 is a for sure, and then you are back to your car. So, yes, that sounds right. We can get a drink and go some more, or sit in the car and eat candy while our husbands run some more.

From kellies on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 17:20:09

Oh, so the base is Camp Williams, so we could just run past that and then turn around when ready? So, if we decided to go out 6 then turn around, or 7 then turn around, etc.... I assumed you meant there was literally like a base, where you had to turn around. I am a ding a ling, I have no brain, sorry about me!!

From Kelli on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 17:22:10

Okay, yes, or we could do that. But we would have to run on Redwood road. The trail ends and about 4.85 miles (we just ran until we hit 5, didn't even make it out of the parking lot).

From kellies on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 17:24:57

Okay, I am just going to follow your lead. I like any idea, including the one about sitting in the car and eating candy. However, after seeing how well you are doing with your running, yoga, aerobics, etc. you are actually entitled to sit and do that. What excuse do I have?? NONE!! I stink lately and am starting to really feel it. I need to be better! Okay, enough of that serious talk. Again, I am just following your lead Saturday, I am your slave, I will do whatever you ask of me :). Wow, hope that came out right!!

From Kelli on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 17:28:49

Well, it made me laugh!!

Okay, so my 3 year old gets to go to my sisters because we are going downtown with our YW for some broadcast that we get to be a part of (I do not even know what it is). Anyway, she has been nagging me to go all day. I keep telling her it is not time yet. She just came and told me that she will give me all of the money in her wallet if I will take her to Tanner's (my nephew) right now. How cute is that? She even gave me the Cinderella wallet with all of her pennies!!

Alrighty, I am off to pick up my kids from school, then I have to try to make myself beautiful for this broadcast (that just means Sunday dress, I do not believe in beautiful). LATER!!!!

Yea!! I made it over 20 miles this week, what an accomplishment for me.  And, I ran more than 7 miles, which is the longest since the marathon.  We (Ty and I) met up with Kelli and her hubby Scott for our date morning (rather then date night) for a nice run out on the trail behind Thanksgiving Point.  This is the first time I have ran this trail and enjoyed it very much despite the hills ( I do not do hills well) and Kelli kicked my trash.  She just blew up those hills like they were nothing while I huffed and puffed my way up them. I was tired when we got done but feel awesome now that I am done, oh and after eating the pumpkin muffin tops that Kelli brought, yummy!! I said to Kelli "Wow I could get used to this, running with good company and then goodies at the end", she spoiled us!  It was a beautiful course and great start to a Saturday morning and again, very fun to run with Kelli (Yes, our speedy hubbies left us).  Thanks for the run and the conversation Kelli :) We will have to plan another 'date morning' run here soon~

From Kelli on Sat, Nov 08, 2008 at 14:12:42

I kicked your trash??? Hmm....I did not see it that way! That was a speedy run for me, the fastest I have run since the marathon! I know hills, they are my friend, but I was HUFFING and PUFFING just as loud. But I loved running with you and could have gone all day (we should have grabbed the muffins and then just walked and talked all afternoon, I have so many stories to tell you!!!)

Until next time....too bad you are leaving next weekend, we could make it a standing date!

No race report from TEENA, I can not wait any longer!!!!!

From Kellies on Sat, Nov 08, 2008 at 14:37:08

Marion. Yes, why aren't there more trails around here? I was telling Kelli that this morning. There is one in Spanish Fork, but it isn't a very long one. I guess they assume us country folk (here in Payson and Salem) can just run on the roads. Maybe you and I need to team up and present a request to the cities? You are doing so awesome in your training and are so positive, I luv ya!

Kelli: Yes, there were a couple of times today that if I hadn't been running with you, I would have stopped and walked, but I couldn't let that happen in front of my twin sister because it would seperate us, right? LOL. I know, I felt the same way about you, we could have talked forever and ever. That is why I am excited for the 22nd, we can learn even more about each other. I am serious about this weekend. JaNae and I are going to get up and go for a long run Saturday morning, can't you come and join us?? Just fly in or something? If not, we have the Saturday after Thanksgiving to look forward to! Thanks so much for the fun run, I had a blast!!

From kellies on Sun, Nov 09, 2008 at 21:46:30

Thanks Jon! It was a great trail and one I hope to do again soon!

Michelle: Yeah, Tyler and I really like to relive our high school days and bring the whole chase and catch game into our married relationship, so this was all part of our date morning plan :) ha ha. No, I really do aspire to be as fast as him but it just isn't happening, maybe some day.

Kelli: Come along, you wouldn't even have to cram into my suitcase. Now the question is, would you really like to come down to St. George over a weekend with 4 other 29 year old strangers? I think we better just plan another trip down there (maybe a weekend date) and so we can all get up and run together again, except for in St. George this time? You are doing painters right?

From Kelli on Sun, Nov 09, 2008 at 22:31:30

Strangers I could handle, 29 year olds on the other hand would cause quite a problem!!! I am way too mature for that, WAY!! I will be thinking of you on Saturday when I am running in the cold and you are NOT!!!

And YES on Painters. It is gonna be a regular old party!

Oh, I am so glad that I got up and ran this morning for a few reasons, let me share:

1).  I only got about 4 1/2 -5 hours of sleep Saturday night so I was very tired this morning and didn't want to get up, but I did, YEA!!.

2.) After realizing how much weight I have gained since the marathon, I am taking on a whole new motto with my running, diet, etc. "I am not young anymore, I have to work hard if I want to see results".

3.) About 45 minutes after I got home, it started pouring rain outside and while I was running it was beautiful (lucked out).

4.) Now, I am sitting here at work and it just feels good knowing that I have gotten my exercise in for the day so I don't have to feel guilty.

5.) I got to visit with "the Heidi's" for almost an hour which is enough to get anyones day started off on the right foot.

6.) All of my boys cooperated this morning which resulted in a happy mom, happy boys and a good feeling to get my day started.

See, all of this was made possible just because I got up and ran!!  What a great way to start my day!

From kellies on Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 14:22:26

Okay, I am still young but just getting to the age where things aren't as easy as they used to be. I am just a few short months away from being 30, da da da daaaa (tone gets lower with each of those da's) which feels like doombs day because I have heard how everything changes with your body the closer you get to 30 and I am totally understanding that concept already, so it's only bound to get worse right? Scary!

Heidi came over this morning so that we could do some strength training because Tyler went to do some speed work so I had to be at my house.  It has been a VERY long time since I have focused on strength training and it felt very good to work muscles in my body that I forgot existed.  We did a video that worked pretty much every area of our bodies followed up by some good stretching at the end.  Again, it was nice to mix things up a bit.  For running as often as I try and for as long as I have, you would think I would be a little stronger (especially in my legs) but this workout proved that I have a very long way to go in the form of strength.  I look forward to doing this a little more often so that I can try to firm up my muscles.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!!

I have tried to make my Thanksgiving run a tradition over the past few years and seem to enjoy it more and more each year.  Today, the Heidis and I met up for a 10 mile thanksgiving run.  The weather was perfect, a beautiful fall morning and we had a really really fun time.  It sure makes it nice to know that I can eat those extra pieces of turkey, sweet potatoes,  slivers of pie and a few extra rolls without having to feel too remorseful, ha ha!!  Who am I kidding?  However, I am so darned sore after my strength training workout with Heidi yesterday that I have had a little harder time recovering today.  I felt fine while running but the longer and longer the day goes on, I am literally starting to hobble (not gobble) around.  Oh well, at least it's proof that I in fact, worked my muscles yesterday, I should have known I would feel like this today!!  It has been a great Thanksgiving.  I hope everyone had a very Happy Holiday!

It's mornings like today that bring the joy of running to it's peak.  Running is very personal but it is sure nice when you get to meet up with fellow runners and meet new people and also put faces with names to those that you have talked to, etc,  it makes it feel like more of a group effort :)  This morning Michelle met with us and we carpooled up to Lehi to meet with a group from the blog.  Kyle and JaNae follwed us up as well. Thank you Kelli for putting this morning together and for all of your efforts and hard work that went into this morning.  There were several runners who went 20-22 miles, some who went 14, 13, and 10 miles.  JaNae and I ran the first 10 together but then she had to leave so Smooth and I finished up another 4 miles and called it a day.  It was a pretty casual run but a lot of fun meeting so many new people.  Hello out there to Smooth, Alan, Eric, Jose, Scott, Kelli, Tarzan, Jon, Kyle, JaNae, Michelle and the 2 friends of Kelli's from the gym (I know one of your names were Rachel, but I am sorry I can't remember the other one :( , sorry if I missed anyone.  It was so nice running with all of you today.  Thanks to kelli again for the yummy "breakfast" as the end, it sure topped the whole morning off.

Kellie, THANKS for running slowly with me. You DO have great legs and good memory. I can't remember names and faces for the life of me. So next time if I call you by another name, here's my apology in advance.

Seriously, it was so fun running and chatting with you. Hope to see you again soon. It's so COOL that you have a great running partner/coach in Tyler. BTW, I meant to tell you when we were running: CONGRATULATIONS for your BQ...and you were training with a new baby!!! SIMPLY AMAZINGLY AWESOME!!!

From kellies on Mon, Dec 01, 2008 at 00:34:10

Awe, I am blushing at all of your nice comments. Really, thank you so much!!

Kelli: You are really too kind. I know you are going to get all better and we will run together again, I look forward to that. Also, you are officially my new best friend regarding your comment about my legs. Thank you. However, I was thinking the very same thing about your cute little legs, so I think you ought to look in the mirror. Now, if only I could get my waste and arms to follow suit?? Hmmmm......

Teena: I know, i feel bad that I keep missing you. You need to get all better too so that we can plan the next group run and finally meet in person. Let me know when that will be and I will hire a camera crew to get it on film, ha ha, jk. I look forward to that though.

Smooth: I really enjoyed running with you and loved our visit. You are one of those people that I could talk to forever and ever. Thank you getting me out on those last 4 miles. I was really debating what to do so thank you for your ambition to go just a bit further. Thanks for the comment about the BQ, it was a very fun moment and Boston is something that I really look forward to. Also, i may have mislead you, I actually had my baby in 2007 so he is now a year and a half old. I was trying to say that I think running the marathon last year (2007), when he was just 5 1/2 months old was a little hard on my body and I am really starting to feel it the older I get. This may just actually be something I am telling myself to make myself feel better rather then facing the facts, :). But really, thanks for the run and the chat. Meeting new people while running has been a very big highlight for me!! You are AWESOME!!!

From Kelli on Mon, Dec 01, 2008 at 18:56:03

If you figure out the waist thing, let me know! Maybe not so many shakes and candy (for me anyway)???

Have a great week cute thing!

Hey, you don't wanna do a 50k in April do you? I am trying to talk some girls into doing it with me JUST FOR FUN, not for time. It is in the St George area on April 18th.

From kellies on Tue, Dec 02, 2008 at 11:18:33

Yeah, i think my sugar intake definitely has "something" to do with my waste line, hmmmm?? I will have to think about what is more important, a smaller waste, or having candies and shakes, great question :).

Honey, April 18th is the same weekend as Boston isn't it? How are you going to do that one?? Does this mean you aren't doing Boston? We need to talk~

From Kelli on Tue, Dec 02, 2008 at 12:21:14

Oh, hmmm. I am undecided on Boston. I keep waiting to win the lottery!!! It is an I WANT TO DO kind of thing, but I dunno. Scott WILL qualify this next year so we may hold off until the next year. I DUNNO!!!!

What about the 50k on Antelope Island in March?????

And, to answer the first question, treats are more important that about almost anything out there! They make us happy and all warm and fuzzy inside. I size 4 pants will not do that (well, initially maybe, but not every time you put them on).

From kellies on Wed, Dec 03, 2008 at 17:43:47

Just the long lost tuning back in to finish this conversation. Okay, so tell me more about this 50K in April. I am thinking Boston will not be an option for me this year. As much as I would like to hope and think so, I just don't think it's in the cards. So, maybe if I have something else to look forward to, I will get Boston off of my mind! So, enlighten me. Do you do all 30 miles by yourself? Is is relay, etc.

http://www.redmountain50k.com/

If you want to do it, I am so in!! They cap it at 250, so I am thinking we need to hurry. It is NOT a relay, but I think it would be fun to do for F-U-N, even walking if you have to here and there. It would be fun to do for time one day, but not yet!

Tell me what you think when you come back for your next BLOG visit!

Met with Heidi W this morning for another session of strength training. Oh, how I have missed strength training for these past several years.  It feels SO DARN GOOD to work my muscles and to feel soar afterward (knowing that you have worked your muscles).  I am so appreciative to Heidi for her willingness to come over to my house and do this with me!! Thanks Heidi~

Wow, can you do some weights for me? It doesn't sound so fun to me. . .

Thanks for switching with Tyler to Wed for the last two weeks. It helps so much to not do those long tempos alone.

From kellies on Wed, Dec 03, 2008 at 18:25:21

It's really a love hate relationship when it comes to strength training. I want to cry while I am doing it, but then it just feels so stinkin good afterward.

You are so kind to thank me for switching days with Tyler. I know that he likes to go in the mornings and the last few months have been hard with his work schedule so I feel it is only fair for me to work with his schedule the way he works with mine so often. He really enjoys running with others too and so thank you for your willingness to contact us with your weekly schedules, it really means a lot. He said it was a good morning and that you met up with our little friend from St. George. He is a cute kid (friend of my brothers from High School). He has been driving up to SLC to run, can you imagine? It would be really nice for him to find someone to run with down here so that he doesn't have to drive so much. Anyway, thanks for everything and for your nice comment! Have a good evening~

2 days in a row again!!! WOO-HOO!!!

From MichelleL on Thu, Dec 04, 2008 at 19:04:06

I seriously thought that St. G "kid" was like 50 years old and was also afraid he was going to do us harm. What kind of guy wants to/can just jump into a tempo run like that? The more the merrier, so long they are vouched for. It's nice you know him.

We'll have to get together for a run for sure next week. I have stuff that I wanted to talk to you about way back last Saturday but didn't get around to. You are so fun to talk to!

From kelsey on Thu, Dec 04, 2008 at 19:35:06

Nice! I'm going to give myself a little time to heal and hope to pick up some strength training as well. I wish I had someone to do it with too though!

From kellies on Fri, Dec 05, 2008 at 12:38:19

Lol, yeah that would have scared me a little too about that kid had I not known him or talked to him previously. It's pretty sad these days that you never know who to trust or not trust. We had an older guy come to our house the other night at about 8:45, in a suit asking for a phone number of the Stake Executive Secretary and I was hesitant to let him in our house while I looked for it. It turned out to be legitimate and was just fine but it made me sad that I had to question the man :(.

I would love to go for a run next week so that we can chat some more. I am always up for talking (in case you hadn't figured that out yet) and love talking to you too, so it would be a fun time. I will watch for your schedule this next week and jump on board one of the days. Thanks Michelle, hope you have a great Friday!!

Kelsey: Yes, it makes it TONS easier if you have someone to do anything with. I have always loved the idea of just working out in my basement but would never get out of bed if I knew someone wouldn't be waiting for me. I hope that you find a work out buddy and that you heal soon! You are awesome :)

I met with Heidi again this morning for another session of Strength training.  We did a different video this morning that incorporated a little more cardio so that was good and I am not sore (soar sp??) like I have been so hopefully that is a good sign too!  It was a good morning and again, I am just so thankful for Heidi's willingness to come to my house so that I get some type of work out in on my off mornings.  Thanks Heidi!

I wish I could brag about a great run this morning but here is what happened.  JaNae, the Heidi's and I had planned on meeting at 6:00 to run our normal 5 mile square.  Heidi C ended up having a late night and so she decided (per her 1:00am text to me) that she would not be coming in the morning, understood.  SO, I woke up, got dressed and walked into my kitchen to get my watch on and checked my phone.  There was a second text from JaNae that she wasn't feeling well and that she would not be making it over for the run either.  So, I got all suited up and walked out and down to Heidi W's to meet her to run and....................... she never came.  After waiting about 5-6 minutes, I decided that this was a clear, sure sign that I needed to go home and climb back in bed and so......I did!!  This is horrible of me but I didn't want to go out by myself and it was really cold and my bed was much more inviting.  The best part is I didn't even feel guilty about it later.  I was glad that Heidi C had a late night out with friends prohibiting her from coming, that JaNae was able to sleep a little longer to help her feel better and that Heidi W slept in and was able to get some sleep too, so it was totally justified.

The Heidi's and I met up this morning for an easy 9-10 mile course.  We just ran an out and back course that ended up being 9 miles.  I hadn't ran since Monday so I have to admit that I had a little harder time then I would have liked to.  I think the cold weather had a major effect as well.  But none the less, we got out and had a good time.  I look forward to a new, hopefully more productive week this next week.

From kellies on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 11:47:15

Thanks Ladies!! I am sure trying. It's women like you that keep me going :).

Kel, yes, I wanted to talk to you more about the 50K, are you in for sure? I am up for it and I think it will be good to have my mind focused on something. I don't think I am doing Boston in 09. Some things have come up and let's just say that Boston is about the least of things I need to focus on right now. But, with that being said, I know I will go crazy if I don't have something to look forward to. So, are you in? If you do it, I will do it. ha ha ha, how "high school" was that?

From Kelli on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 13:41:55

I am in! Which one do you want to do? The one the same weekend as Boston in Ivins (near St George) or the one in March on Antelope Island?? I could go on and on listing pros and cons of each, I think the main things are timing (like if you are running the Ogden Marathon and want to have an awesome time, maybe a 50k 3 weeks before it is not a good idea, but I am not worried about it for me) and whether we want to travel or not.

From kellies on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 13:49:07

See, running is a science. Decisions decisions. Ty and I had talked about running Ogden this year but am not sure about anything now. I think the St. George area sounds funner and prettier, but you are right, the timing would not be good. However, it's not like I would be trying to make a record breaking time or anything. I haven't even been training with speed at all. It's like I am in survival mode, just trying to run, PERIOD. I am not as worried about my pace right now. Anyway, that was way off. Tell me some more of the pros and cons, like which one is more down hill?? That is a major PRO to me!! We need to discuss. Oh, and will you email me your address please? I want to send you a Christmas Card :)

Met up with the Heidi's for our traditional 5 mile square.  I have decided that although this course is pretty much the same thing we do each time we run, I am totally fine with that.  I have expressed my love of this little course because not only is it the perfect distance of 5 miles, but it feels more like 3 miles.  So, I think we plan to pretty much just keep running this course during the week days and then try to shake things up on the weekends :).  Not to mention that I am falling in love with strength training which I intend to start doing more regularly as well.  I have to make the most of this week because Heidi W is leaving us Saturday for a week long cruise, LUCKY DUCK!!  So, we hope to have a full week before she leaves and hope even more that we can all keep it up the week she is gone.  It was a great morning!! Happy Monday everyone~

I am not sure on my avg pace because my garmin ran out of batteries as I walked out the door to run, Darn it!!  But pace felt comfortable.

Met with Heidi this morning for a session of strength training.  Have I mentioned that I am really starting to enjoy strength training?? :). I can not decide if it is because of the burn I feel while doing the workout, the sore muscles after the work out, the visit time I have with Heidi, the fact that I don't have to leave my house, the way it gets my day started off just right, or the fact that I don't have to go out in 20 degree temps, hmmmmm, I THINK IT'S ALL OF THE ABOVE!!!!  So, yes, I enjoy it and always enjoy time to work out with fun, happy, helpful people!  It was a great morning.

Hard at work. Heidi just commented on yesterdays work out so it sparked my memory that I needed to post today's work out. Go easy on my, it took me 25 seconds and I didn't even check one other person's blog. Now I am feeling guilty (for taking time away from work and from not looking at others blogs). GEEZZZ!! JK.

So, what started as a small disaster, ended in a very nice morning.  If you have the time, I will tell you the story, it goes like this:

I was supposed to meet Michelle, Ali (and Mac ended up coming along too) to go running at 5:00.  My eyes popped open only to see the alarm clock beeming 5:20, CRAP, I SLEPT IN!! So, I said to Ty "honey, you didn't wake me up". Yes, the alarm clock is on his side of the bed, so this is his responsibility :).  He is sure that he did try to wake me up, but I am sure that he just dreamed this and actually didn't try waking me up.  In any event, I got out of bed and started getting ready before stopping and thinking "what am I doing, they are long gone, I have no idea where to find them", so Tyler says "why don't you just go drive around and try to find them".  Well after calculating times, I figure that by the time I leave my house, they would have already had 4-5 miles under their belt.  Not having an idea which direction to even begin, I decide that it just wasn't meant to be today and so what do I do? Climb back into bed.  Well Tyler starts giving me a hard time saying things like "Or, you can just climb back in bed and not do anything, etc etc," ha ha, so you know that just wasn't going to happen.  So, I went and got my phone and decided that I would text my dear friend Heidi to see what time she was going out.  I knew she was planning on going but just didn't know what time.  And, I figured that her phone was away from her so that she would just text me back when she woke up and saw my message.  So, I send her a text asking her if I can jump in and run with her today and just to let me know what time she was going.  Figuring it would be a while before she got up, I again, crawled back into bed only to be startled 30 seconds later when I get a text back from heidi saying they are going running at 6:30.  Well, that was a little too late for me, so I decide again that running is just not going to happen today so I should just go back to bed.  Side Note: Tyler is awake this entire time. So, not 15 minutes later, just as I was dozing back into a slumber, I am awaken by my phone vabrating under my pillow with this message from Heidi, and I quote "Okay, now I can't go back to sleep so wake up,  get dressed and meet me outside in 10-15 minutes" at which I responded "Yes, Mam".  So, I get back out of bed and go to get dressed and walk out to see Tyler is now out of bed too.  So I walk in the kitchen and poor sleep deprived Tyler is sitting at the table working on his computer, knowing that sleep was no longer an option for him today either.  Moral of my story is that I woke Heidi up and Tyler up, all because I couldn't get up.  Sorry guys.  However, we ended up going out and getting a little over 5 miles in (meeting up with Heidi C at the intended 6:30 time to join us) and as always, the visiting was fun and I was SO GLAD that i was able to get out.  Although a little crazy, it ended up being a great morning.  So, Thanks Heidi and Tyler for sacrificing your sleep in my benefit. I really do appreciate it!

I do deserve a butt kicking for this one, dang me!! Oh, and I am in for the 50k, we need to sign up. I am not sure if we will have the house that weekend but will see what I can do. Lets just get it booked and we will figure out the lodging situation later.

But, we are going to try and keep it up on Tuesday and Thursday mornings so if you ever want to join us, just let me know, that is an open invitation. They can even go run if your littlest one with stay with Ashly (or when we finish).

(no really, she totally deserves it).  We kind of got off to a rough start.  We were going to meet at 6:30 and go 7 miles but my sitter slept in so we got a late start. I was a little exhausted from a long week and Heidi had a list of "to do's" before heading off on her vacation so I don't think our heads were really in the game.  But we headed off with out game faces on.  We started running and the wind was horrible and it was cold.  We decided to just run out 2 miles and then come back so that is what we did.  So, we didn't get in what we wanted, but never the less, It was a good start to a Saturday and I think a good start to Heidi's vacation.

So, Tyler and I met up with Kellie Barney this morning who is in town for Christmas, to go for a run.  Kellie is from the same town that I grew up in and has ran since she could walk, I think.  She has been a huge example to me in the running department and so I really looked forward to running with her today.  She currently lives in Indiana with her husband and kids while her hubby finishes school specializing as a "root canal" dentist.  I think it is called endodontics, but I have no idea on the spelling or anything so I think "root canal" dentist explains it, right?  Anyway, we met up with her, started running and got about 2 miles into our run when we ran into Michelle, Hal, Steven and Travis. So Michelle and Travis came along with us for the rest of the route.  The weather was perfect today for running but I struggle with the slushy gunk that in on the road  (I am sure you are all impressed with my terminology here).  I guess it's not "that" bad, just keeps you light on your feet :). It was a great morning and so fun to see Kellie again.  I hope I get to run with her again while she is here during Christmas.

Yes, it's true that I completely and totally made the most of my Christmas week, but I feel fine about it.  It was a very crazy week and between Christmas, Cold Weather and late night parties, I just didn't have it in me to get out. I attempted a few times, but was clearly very unsuccessful.  In any event, I got out today for a quick little run today by myself (leaving my house at 11:40, which was different) before digging into a very busy Saturday!  It was good to get out and I look forward to redeeming myself next week.

I was going to meet up with Mac and Michelle this morning at 5:00am but opted for a 6:00am shift given it's Christmas Break and both my hubby and kids are out of school, so call me lazy, but WHY would I get out of bed to run at 5:00am??  Just kidding, I would get out of bed at any time to run with Michelle and Mac but also wanted to get a little extra sleep and go with the Heidi's.  So we met up with the intent to go 6.5, However, Heidi C's hubby was scheduled for knee surgery and she needed to be home to take him so we cut it a little short (hope he is doing okay Heidi).  Therefore, we just did our traditional 5 mile square adding a tintsy tinesy bit on at the end.  It felt really really good to get out and get some miles in (hey, it was more miles then I ran the entire week before, ha-ha).  I am looking forward to getting some good workouts in this week so that I can end the last week of the year in "style".  Hope you all enjoy the last week of 2008!!

Heidi W and I met this morning for a variety of strength training and yoga at my house while Tyler went to run in Provo with Sasha, Michelle and some others.  It was a very fun morning after I actually woke up for it.  I was feeling the side effects of a late night out with my girl friends (3:00am) Saturday night for the first little bit.  Funny how it didn't hit me until today.  But, again, once I woke up, it was very fun to work out with Heidi.  We did some strength training first and then ended our little work out session with some yoga from a new video I purchased.  Yes, it was a little interesting, mixed with some humor and good stretching, so all in all I feel it was successful.  What a great way to start my day!!  Now, I am at work trying to dig myself out of work to do and trying to stay motivated given it is another Holiday week.  I do mortgage loans and given how great the interest rates are right now, I have gotten pretty busy (yay!, I perform so much better under pressure).  All the more reason to get my work outs done in the morning to get me grounded and ready to hit the day.  So, if anyone out there is interested in helping me out in the "Exercising" department come and refinance with me or let me help you get financing to buy a house and I will be better at working out, hint hint................. :).

Have a good day everyone~

I met up with Kellie Barney again this morning, and her sister Michelle for a little jaunt.  I am sure it felt like a jaunt to Kellie but it was quit the little workout for me. We just ran the 5 mile square route adding on "pretty little road" to get some more mileage in.  If anyone is familiar with the area I run in, you totally know where I am talking about.  I think every little road or the tiniest of landmarks have their designated name to associate it with a running route. I love that about small towns and towns that are heavily populated with runners.  It was so nice to run with Kellie again. She has lots of fun stories and is very experienced with running so I like to talk to her about it.  It was awful cold this morning though.  My mouth was so frozen by the end of the run that it was painful for me to talk.  Ha-ha.   So, I hustled in, got dressed and Tyler and I took Evan snow boarding for the day.  Now we are just getting home and going to start getting ready to host our annual New Years party!!  Busy, Fun day!!!

Happy New Years Everyone!! Here is to a great 2009~ Cheers!!
